Sony MDR-R10 Repair - Back From The Dead
Bingo - I cannot see how any consumer can purchase any JL product in good conscience or if you value your dollar. While I feel the evidence is quite clear, I can see how others may think simply due to the fact that the R10's were previously modded (even though it is clear the drivers were never touched nor the enclosures opened up which is confirmed by jenalabs) JL is going to use that fact as there only "out" and the one thing they are using to take NO accountability for what has occured. Not someone you should do business with.

Beeely, how about sony mdr 7506? They are supposed to be pretty decent, no? I do not even remember what I used for cans when I was rocking the vinyl, they were probably really cheap and crappy.

Best Tube Amp Today? Cost maybe an object
You got it - output from the plate. And since the 6c33c has a pretty low plate resistance as is (craig has it at 90 ohms), just a bit of negative feedback and he drops it to 12 ohms output.

Sony MDR-R10 Repair - Back From The Dead
I believe it just had the last line edited out which about 3 other headfiers were able to quote before he changed it.

Sony MDR-R10 Repair - Back From The Dead
Hey guys I read the email again from JL and I think you all are missing a very important point. Jena did have one of the leading headphone cable designers, Ken from ALO, listen to them. He didn't hear anything wrong and thought they sounded fantastic. So basically you guys are all wrong, sorry. I guess we can surmise that Alex messed up the R10's himself to corroborate a story on how he saved them from extinction. Kind of like in the Dan Brown's Angels and Demons but not as dramatic. hahahahaha

I believe in america that is what we refer to as a "think tank" - which I think is a good thing. It's why I like this place and usually post my questions here and ask for advice here than over there. If I posted a HP1000 vs. L3000 thread I would get a lot of "ooooh pretty cans can me touch dem?" - or I might get "can i see pics puhlease". Here I got some great feedback that actually helped me make a really big decision. Just the way it is.

Chicago Mini Meet 4/19 Impressions thread
Yeah who woulda thunk it but after owning two vintage RS-1's and having 3 new stock ones the differences to me have been pretty apparent. I did hear the new buttonless one and I thought it sounded pretty good, didnt really hear the glare up top pretty smooth and typical full bodied colored lushness you'd expect from the RS-1.

I concur. Markl I thought you were okay man and I had some respect for you coming on here and at 1st defending your side of things in a very respectful humble manner. But dude you got to get off that high horse your on. You say you are stating facts but these facts and the actual fact of stating said facts makes you look like an arrogant ass, just stop man. You review little ity bitty transducers driven by milliwatts of power, good for you.

Hold on are you talking about yourself in the 3rd person? I thought only NFL wide receivers and NBA all star shooting guards did that. "Yeah recstar24 is way awesome yeah I know because when you know the recstar24 you rock like the recstar24 ya dig? He be writing reviews and the recstar's ear is golden ya hurd. Yeah I get that I go waaaaaaaaaaaay back like old school headfi, but don't worry I get that that truly I am just trying to help out all you lesser folk who can't rock like the recstar can I mean if its not for the recstar how else you gonna get the goods?" That is not a purposeful dig at you markl but more a humurous attempt (poorly of course) to show you how others perceive you based on what your write/say and how you convey yourself (more so the fact of what you write about yourself).

Chicago Mini Meet 4/19 Impressions thread
Thanks for posting about the K340 - wow your headphile k340 was freaking fantastic! Actually I wish I spent more time with it. I heard that the zana drove it beautifully as well. The one thing that shocked me was your k340 had some great bass going, deep and full. I heard it on the B52 and I wish I gave it a shot on the zana for sure.

Best SS-amp Today; Cost NO Object?
I didn't vote as I haven't listened to any of the amps you posted. If I were to get one of those listed based on my research, taking into account impressions of users I have learned to trust their sonic ear, as well as price to apparent value ratio, the one that strikes me the most is the beta 22. Does that account as recommending something I have never heard? If so, yay!!! I'm cool you drool.

I think the line in question is: "I get that I go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the headphone world. To some extent, by virtue of the amount of involvement I've had in the community, and the amount of influence I can sometimes wield" Now while you may conveying that with the utmost sincerity and honesty, it does kind of come across as self righteous, with a touch of arrogance thrown in as well. While some may believe what you said about yourself, I just would not ever think someone would ever actually say something like that out loud about themself especially on an online forum. Now couple that with what you were saying about who would be able to get the mods done if it weren't for you, there is a mixed message in there.

Markl I appreciate you coming on over here into a possible lions den and I gotta say you handled yourself well. I think some users just have issues with the idea of charging for a service that anyone can do. If people are willing to pay you money for simple mods that are available for anyone to do themselves, more power to you. I think aerius is more concerned about your intent and motivation rather than the actual modding itself, but the reality is there are people out there willing to pay money for things that they could do themselves. And the fact that you seem pretty upfront about wanting to get paid for your time, last time I checked we all get paid for our time in some way or another.

Hey man just let me know, even though I've replied to like 8 people I think I have room to fit you in at the front of the line

HP1000 vs. L3000 (now with head size discussion!)
Sure! Man, I used to be a freak about lettering but it really looks darn sexy without it. Before: After: And I got a 2nd set coming in Friday, oh lordy I am listening to #1 right now and damn its like being reunited with an old friend. Acoustic memory is failing me though as I don't remember the standard cable being able to sound this dynamic with great extension, #2 coming in has the ultrawide. Headsup, I just put up #1 for sale on HF but if anyone is interested hit me up, I don't mind having HC priority.

Yah it looks real nice - love the new thread title by the way. HP-2 #1 just came in today, but it has bowls, yuck. I'll have to swap them out when I get home.

HP1000 vs. L3000 (now with head size discussion!)
Ummm...I don't even bother with fitted hats, more or less hats in general. I think its weird when you have an adjustable cap, and the strap is on its last rung and it barely fits. I don't bother.

HP1000 vs. L3000 (now with head size discussion!)
Yeah I agree in fact I think I actually find the HP1000's slightly more comfortable than the RS-1's believe it or not. It actually sits better and is more firm without causing any discomfort whatsoever. However I do have a humongo head and my ears are like bat ears as they are pretty huge (fitted hat size = 7 3/4 I think). Here's a pic from my wedding ceremony so you get an idea of my melon. As you can see my head is about 2x the size of my wife's head. With a head like mine grados just happen to be very comfortable, the more metal the better.

HP1000 vs. L3000 (now with head size discussion!)
Oh don't worry the door isn't shut completely - local headfier, offering me again a very reasonable and sane deal or at least noticeably lower than what the past l3000's have been going for, at bare minimum I could check them out and unload them and pass the savings to the community. The idea of a high quality bad ass looking insanely built closed headphone is very appealing. The hp1000 is built very well imo just in a very simplistic manner. The l3000 appears to offer a more luxurious experience in that regard especially with the comfort, but comfort is simply not an issue with my and grados.
