  3. Yep agreed, I sent them an e-mail about the mods and heres the meat of their reply: Here are the details: Customer needs to supply the unit ~ $2K, unless you can get a deal. Our mod price only is $2K and includes the following: Complete re-design of stock analog stage in Transporter. Volume control in unit is still active, as are all firmware, wireless, Ethernet, SP/DIF, optical ins/outs, etc. Tube stage features internal power supply, based on design technology from our own preamp designs. Tube-rectified power supply using 5U4/5V4/5AR4 compatible rectifiers. There will be room to use 5UV/5V4 'G' and 'GB' types, for the 300B look or the straight bottle look. Signal tubes and rectifiers will be mostly exposed and easily accessible from the top. The fuse block will also be external, so there will be no need to open the unit up to change fuses or swap tubes. The exposed tubes will also keep the box cool inside. Heat producing SS devices in the circuit will be heat-sinked to the AL chassis, so the case may run warm, but the temperature inside the box will be kept at a normal opearting temperature. Tube analog stage featuring balanced outs (differential) to XLR outs and SE outputs to RCA jacks. Tube analog stage designed around 6CG7/6FQ7/6922/7308/6DJ8/6N1-P tube family. Two tubes are used, but only one triode per channel is used in the circuit. The second triode is not used, allowing for 2x the tube life by simply swapping the tube positions. The balanced outputs are achieved by custom wound output transformers from Electraprint (Jack Iliiano) - www.elecraprint-audio.com. Voltage output is approximately 2.5V max, in-line with a typical CD source. This is still plenty of gain to drive most amplifiers to full output level, allowing for the unit to be connected directly to the amplifier. Note: It was designed and voiced, being fed into our LS 36.5 tube linestage. I expect to schedule the first start date within two weeks from Monday, or by Sept. 10th. Turnaround is expected to be approx. 2-weeks and our scheduling of start dates is intended to insure this. We require a $500 non-refundable deposit to insure a start date, with the remainder due upon completion of work.
  4. I wonder how the Transporter w/ the upcoming Modwright mods will stand up against the higher-end cdp's.

    30 Runs!

Yeah absolutely crazy and to think it was in the first game of a double header. I wonder if the Orioles have enough pitchers to get through game 2.
  6. Yeah I'm gonna disagree with that, the Realta chip used in the Denon is the best single chip upsampling/processing chip available now. Plus the linear power supply and dual dac's would make a big difference when it comes to sonics.
  7. The forum software has sub and sup tags for that. Sub: S Sup: S
  8. Welcome Back... now build me a B22
  9. Looks very interesting.
  10. That's always been my understanding of the design of my amp and the extreme. I think earl may have been using "coupling caps" as generic term when he should have specified interstage coupling caps as clearly every SP amp has always had output coupling caps.
  11. The samsung unit is the BDP-UP5000 and as of now its scheduled for an october/novemeber release.
  12. Where have you been . One of the PS3's big selling points is its ability to play blu-ray. Coincidentally it also happens to be just about the best blu-ray available at the moment.
  13. I would not get the LG player it doesn't fully support HD-DVD, wait for Samsung's hd-dvd/blu-ray player thats coming out in a month or two.
  14. Yeah Outlaw's current deal is pretty good but the 970 doesn't have HDMI. Not sure if thats going to be an issue for you or not, if it is take a look at the current Denon and Marantz receivers. In terms of speakers there are literally thousands of options, it'd really help if you could give any sort of budget for them. In terms of DVD players you can't go wrong with the Denon 3910.

  16. You do realize its coming out for the PC as well right?
  17. If I ever finish downloading the torrent of it I'll host it online for anyone that wants it. I'll probably do an xvid rip of it too as I'm guessing the quality doesn't actually warrant the full size of a dvd.
  18. That closed-in congested feeling is from the Raptors inability to drive low impedance headphones.
  19. Ding, ding we have a winner. Nate, your super secret decoder ring is in the mail .

    New Grado RS-2

Grado Quality Control strikes again . Honesty I hate how people will pass this off as just being an effect of them being "handmade." Bullshit its crap quality control and cost cutting measures.
  21. RME Audio makes a few things that might suit your needs. Not sure if they fit into your pricing though.

    Hey

no its definitely pop. calling any soft drink a soda could possibly get you shot in pittsburgh
  24. The APL Denon's go for way more than that, typically around $4k used. I think you'd be happy with either the sacdmods 3910 or the modwright 3910.
