Decanters
I'm looking for a good all-around decanter for general use with wine. Not in the mood for anything huge or stupidly-shaped. Any suggestions? EDIT: So far, I'm a pretty big fan of the Riedel "O" after using it a couple of times at my parents' place.

What did you do today?
This. And, we had been together for a long time before that fateful day. So IndiDinny probably died the day we signed up for a joint checking account. Roofies and Pancakes!

Jim, I called. But I called the central reservations number, not the actual hotel. When I mentioned the group rate the CSR told me the hotel was "sold out" of that rate on Thursday, but not Friday or Saturday.

Smart move, Nate. And you can cancel up until very close to the event if necessary.

Sound Bars?
Ideally I'd like to get a real HT setup, but the reality is the funding and wife support simply isn't there at the moment. However, I am in the market for a Blu-Ray player. And I was also thinking about one of those soundbars that are being pitched instead of having 6 speakers. Are these things any good? If so, are there any that are relatively inexpensive? I'm pretty lo-fi when it comes to HT so I don't need a super high-end solution.

ROOM RESERVED THURS - SUN. Apparently, the group rate is sold out for Thursday night, but still available for Fri/Sat. Discount programs knocked down the price on Thursday night for me, so the difference is only ~20 bucks. I am very psyched to see the gang.

Beyer T1
Edwood appears to confirm your prediction. The rep at CES told him MSRP is $1295, but I saw a pre-order from a vendor for $995. Interesting. I wonder if Beyer's decision not to hogtie its distributors will force Senn to adjust its pricing strategy for the HD800. My guess is it won't--at least at first. Beyer probably isn't pursuing such a strategy simply because it doesn't have sufficient power to do so. Which, of course, further points out why Senn's pricing behavior is anticompetitive. But I digress...

We live in dangerous times here in the Monkey household. Mrs. Monkey is at CES and has been showing an increased interest in all things audio. I gave her a pair of triple.fi's and she was listening to the Stax rig the other day. And she's damn good at articulating differences between sources. All of this is good because a) I just think it's cool that she gets the hobby and it's something she can enjoy, too. However, with this increased interest and her presence at CES comes something bad: price awareness, and sensitivity thereto.- Sennheiser at CES 2010
