I think people who don't do impressions often have the most helpful things to say. My dad loves wine, has a cellar full of it. But he's not at all a wine snob. He shares liberally. The only thing he asks is that people tell him what the think about it. And he tells people not to worry about a lack of terminology like "leathery" or "hints of black currents with mint." If it tastes like feet, say "feet." Not exactly sure what my point is here anymore. Did any of the headphones sound like feet?

Just got back from the obligatory Santa visit, for which there was a 2 hour wait to have one's photo taken. Even my 3-year old son thought that was ridiculous. So we had some lunch and caught a show. As children's shows go, this one was actually pretty good. Maybe because it was all....Canadian? EDIT: And while it was a good show, I still have a headache, need Advil, and a drink.

The Bryston BDA-1 was just named The Absolute Sound's "Digital Separate of the Year" for 2009. I recently sold mine because, while proficient, it just didn't have enough "life" or "musicality" or whatever that ethereal/elusive quality is that we all seek. And it reminds me that DAC reviews, just like everything else in our audio world, need to be taken with a large salt lick.

Glad the package arrived! Although I did panic for a moment because I actually did send the Bryston to a Canadian buyer.

My laptop is dying. I want a MacBook Pro, but I'm not sure that's in the cards right now. So I'm considering a Netbook. I wouldn't be doing much more than surfing the ol' internets and some light MS Office stuff. But I would also want to be able to load the thing up with tunes and be able to use it as a portable listening/server solution. Is a Netbook in the $300 range capable of this? Oh, and I want it to be reasonably fast.

Are the MBPs being refreshed soon?
