DIY cable gallery
Thanks, Nate, I'm going to try to build it tonight. Haven't done it in a while--can you guys remind me: For a short XLR-XLR IC, I just need to use Pins 2&3 right? Do I need to tie shield to Pin 1 at one end or is that unnecessary?

The Live Music Thread
I saw the Feelies reunion yesterday. Very satisfying. For anyone not familiar with the Feelies, they are a New Jersey band started in the late 70s/early '80s, and sound sort of like a cross between the Talking Heads and the Velvet Underground. Made up of guitarists Bill Million and Glenn Mercer, Brenda Sauter on bass, and Stan Demeski and Dave Weckerman on percussion, the Feelies dueling guitarists and percussionists made for a frenetic jangle pop sound with an underlying, almost mathematical, precision. They were a tight band. They would become a big influence on REM, but not a major commercial success themselves. The Feelies broke up

Pico vs. HR Desktop with DAC
I just looked at the HR site, and you're right Nate. The desktop portable uses the desktop DAC module, but the home amp module.

Pico vs. HR Desktop with DAC
Which modules were the HR amps using in the comparisons above? Once I have completed my gear sell-off to pay for the Stax rig, I am very seriously considering a Pico.

Deoxit?
It looks like the RCA jacks are actually integrated into a plate that gets screwed in to the back panel. Is that what you have found, spritzer? I ask because I am considering just swapping out the jacks all together, but I wonder if that will present fit issues.

Deoxit?
Does Deoxit work? I'm having a slight problem with one pair of my SRM-1/MK2's RCA jacks and was wondering if they need to be cleaned or, y'know, something. Does Deoxit do anything or does it spray snake oil?

The Headcase Stax thread
Does anyone know if the manual for the SRM-1/MK2 is available online?

The Headcase Stax thread
Looks like a SRM1/MK2 just went for $580 over on HF, and there's another one for sale for $500+. That's pretty high isn't it?

I'm bummed that I lost my Mogami ICs w/Pro-Fis. I think airport security took 'em after CJ08. Now I also need a pair of balanced ICs. I have everything I need, ready to go. Just need to find the time...

Career Change Advice
Jack, I think you are at the perfect age and career juncture to pursue your MBA. But I would suggest only getting one from a top-flight program; otherwise, it may be more valuable to you to remain in the workforce and gain experience. Also, in terms of timing, I think being in a MBA program right now could be beneficial. Bad market and getting worse, but hopefully on the uptick by the time you graduate.

Best Online To Do List?
Yes, I think so. Basically, I'm looking for a way to centralize and coordinate across platforms with my wife the info and tasks needed for closing on our apartment and the associated move and tasks, etc. Backpackit appeals to me because it appears to include central repository functionality for documents (purchase agreement, floorplans, etc.), as well as more robust project management.

Best Online To Do List?
Ric, what made you switch from backpackit? It seems the free version lacks the functionality that make it good, was that it?
