off topic but appropriate for this thread: what's with all the posters on head-fi now trying to link and clue in people onto head-case without saying head-case? would jude seriously delete it? is this a way of trying to be secret while letting the whole world know? I just don't really get it...

i like the Zana Duex.

it was all balanced, Dac-1 to the GS-x.

copper was okay, warmer and all, but at the time i was really addicted to what the silver system did so well. eventually i swtiched back to my opposite side rig: tube amp, single ended and copper.

The pico might actually be a contender in this category, at least that's from what I heard from peter, whom i really trust. I'm gonna get a chance to hear it soon, so i'll post how that goes. synergy does play a role, but even in any particular rig the basic performance patterns of each dac are clearly going to show. a bright dac (dac-1) isn't going to become warm or smooth, neither is something like the lavry suddenly going to become the fastest, swiftest, most airy dac out there with cables/power or what not. thought: going in one sonic direction is not necessarily a bad idea. With the GS-X/Benchmark/all silver cables i got one of the best soundstage, speed, impact rigs i have ever heard. it was out right amazing, and i didn't feel it was seriously lacking in midrange (as i would have previously thought it would).

a 200 dollar 50ohm headphone sounds better than the hd650 from a line out and better than the ksc5, that's not news not to be against the hd595, but this is about as but kissing, head-fi like a post as an experienced and well respected member can make.

the VDA-2/vac-1 is clearly superior for the same price ... I would also put the stello da100 and the Monarchy M24 on the better side of this category. had the DA-10, it was cool, i'd buy what it does well, but it's a little lacking in the details, soundstage, and treble extension. I have itunes as well and i usually connect things through an external hard drive (you can set itunes to burn directly onto that other hard drive, in my case it's set a drive "M" (for music)). I basically put into my ipod lossless files. the better option would be to double rip and have like 2 versions of the same cd, and move the lossy to a folder directed to the ipod, while the lossless says nice. As i understand, iron_dreamer's, method would be a headache for itunes users, as least if you're one of those people who updates it all the time because of podcasts, like me.

yea, but most of us have yet to get a good listen to some of those god-like K1000 rigs. even this past meet was too noisy to really get an impression of what the zanden sounds like.
