OPPO BDP-83
OPPO BDP-83 Special Edition Blu-ray Disc Player (emphasis mine) I was under the impression that the only difference was the Sabre DACs, but the all new analog output stage puts a smile on my face. This could be a swell sounding player, the true universal (even HDCD!) deck I've been wanting for years, and for just $900.

Wyred 4 Sound (ESS Sabre) DAC

The Live Music Thread
I saw Phish last weekend at Festival 8, a three day Halloween Festival in Indio, CA. It was awesome. 8 sets, including their first all acoustic set, and the obligatory "musical costume" set. This Halloween, they covered the Rolling Stones "Exile on Main Street" in its entirety, with a tight horn section and two amazing female backup singers (one was Sharon Jones, the other I can't remember). It was outrageous. The Coachella grounds are gorgeous, and the comfort level of the festival was higher then any I've been to, partly because of the professionalism of the staff (except a couple of instances where vendor friends of mine were shook down), partly because of the efforts of the band to maximize comfort (tons of couches and shade all over the place), and partly because there were maybe only 35,000 people at what was supposed to be a 60,000 person festival. I had a blast! iPhone pics on my facebook. Also, I finally had my first In N Out burger. Delicious!

absolutely, as does the time of the day. I am a firm believer that my system sounds better after 10pm.

Stretch, do you have a test record you use? The Hi-Fi News Test LP always sets my mind at ease when I'm unsure of my settings. Then again so does the simplicity of aligning using an arc protractor specific to my TT. Does your TT have an arc protractor available anywhere? I got mine at vinylengine.

SACD -- Is it worth it in a headphone rig?
I bet that Modwright Oppo rocks socks.

SACD -- Is it worth it in a headphone rig?
yes, it's all hi-rez, and all SACDs contain a stereo mix, and yes it's worth it for headphone rigs. SACD signals in general do NOT play well with external DACs, although a few SACDPs will export the signal over HDMI.

Post the last thing you bought!
yes i found its best for the geeks (like me) to naturally be drawn towards other geeks. more fun and less cocaine that way.

Tony's Woodshop $50 finished cherry crates. I use them, but not on existing shelving. I actually use two crates as bookends then put the rest of my vinyl inbetween them, on the ground at the foot of my bed. I intend to buy more crates eventually.
