That thing would actually be really good for grating parmesan onto pasta.

Is the 4 pin XLR wiring configuration a standard?
I ask because the AKG K1000 uses one configuration (i was told it was this anyway): 1 - left channel live 2 - left channel earth 3 - right channel live 4 - right channel earth Which I duplicated when i reterminated my Ergo AMT and made a Hirshmann adapter: pin 1 - no connection to headphone pin 2 - dotted line - left channel negative (2) pin 3 - unmarked inside - left channel live (1) pin 4 - no connection to headphone pin 5 - unmarked outside - right chennel live (3) pin 6 - continuous line - right channel negative (4) ...and duplicated again when I replaced the panel and connector on the TakeT H2/TR-2. Except that the TakeT H2 paperwork, and the sets coming from the company dont use this configuration. They have 3 as right earth and 4 as right live. The left channel on 1 and 2 is the same. Have I been given the wrong information in the first place, or is it actually just up to any individual manufacturer? Is there a standard? This clarification would be important for those who might be using a K1000 configuration pigtail to drive an H2 directly (if the K1000 XLR configuration I've been using is the right one) Thanks.

Something funny happens when I whistle
I've practised that so much and have limited success, but I run out of breath really quick.

the best audio review ever?
Its the best of the best of the best. Whatever you consider the best book ever, War and Peace, Lord Of The Rings, Catch-22, the Bible. Its that. I can go on at length and I do my best, but I cant touch that review. I don't think I ever will.

Quad 11L2
I've read that they weren't as nice in a few places too. The tweeter change seems to the be the root of most complaints, getting rip for being to harsh/bright/strident/grainy/insert your phrase of choice. The original L can be a little on the bright side for my liking in the first place depending on how much toe-in you use. Monitor style facing straight in didn't do it for me. I also think that the protruding feet on the L2 floorstanders ruin the look, and I'm not as keen on the not as gloss a bit more real wood finish.

Fried onions
I think of the kind of soft mostly tasteless almost pulp-like sludge which is more like double plate fried then stewed in a tin onions which is the "fried onions" you'll typically get at any UK vendor (mostly vans) who offer such an addition to your grade Y burger.

Happy Birthday Phil Collins!
As Phil Collins ages, Jeremy Beadle dies. I call that unfair given the talent balance.

Beware! IC eating cats on the loose!
If people want crisps shipped from the UK I'll be happy to do it for them. It'd help counterbalance my Mountain Dew imports.

Your most striking live music encounter
Ludovico Einaudi, Usher Hall Edinburgh, Rosa. (I was front row centre and that whole performance was one continuous immersive eargasm.) R.E.M. T In The Park, Walk Unafraid. (I touched Michael Stipe during that performance)

The Headcase Stax thread
If I had a DIY fetish, I'd have at minimum, a semi-on at that. I will get around to building my own drivers one day. Gotta be 3 or 4 years hence though.

Got the Quad 12Ls today
Did you get the 12L or the 12L2? At half MRSP I'm assuming the 12L. They aren't designed for studio mixing though. Unless you got the active ones. But enough with my warble, great buy. I love my 21L in black.

Fan-Boy Roster
Surrounder weighs about the same as air. Its made of expanded polystyrene. And everyone knows that expanded polystyrene has the best acoustic properties, that's why the HE90 is made out of it too. See how tech trickles down from the flagship?

I should get a pair of mannequin dummies to hang my Surrounders on.

Its just a lump of wood for heavens sake. You could make 10 out of a fence post using only a saw, a plane and some varnish.

New Cat
Maine Coons are fabulous cats. Size of small dogs (biggest domesticated cat breed I expect), intelligent, as good a personality as youll get out of a cat. They do moult like nothing else though. Big fur droppers. Oh, also I don't have a cat. Its against the terms of the lease. And dad is allergic so we never had one back home. But I'm very much a cat person.

Obama
We have had 10 years of Tony Blair for that. Now we're probably going to get David Cameron to replace him. After Big Gordie gets his time that is. If America had the large third wheel in politics that we have in the UK with the Lib Dems, then the political spectrum would be a lot more interesting. The trouble is that the danger of a third wheel (or multiple, larger small wheels) is if they grow so much that the big wheels shrink. (OR if you use proportional representation). Thats the road that leads to minority governments, coalitions and other circumstances where you end up with nothing being done whatsoever because theres insufficient authority. The biggest antithesis to the American 2 party situation (in a western democracy of good standing) is probably Italy. Ramble, ramble ramble, opinions, opinions opinions. Voter apathy, vot.. etc.

Bogart or Mitchum? I have to say that despite its vast failings (i mean, its set it Britain for one). I have a fondness for Mitchums Marlowe, and for Winners Big Sleep in general.

Obama
Insofar as my conversations on this side of the pond have revealed, Obama is the candidate that people are quietly nodding for. If only (maybe) because he stands in the starkest antithesis to Dubya, and everyone outside of the USA hates, or just makes fun of, Dubya.
