  1. He probably is with his pair, but that pair of R10 has the potential of sounding evem better than the bassier R10 if driven properly through the SDS-XLR.
  2. KG, I think the outboard DAC isn't that bad if you feed the digital signal from a very good transport. I was getting a bad result when I used the digital signal from my computer, however, once I used my modified Sony SCD-777ES as a transport feeding the signal into the HEV90's DAC, the sound quality was almost as good as the sound from RCA outputs form my Sony. My Sony SCD-777ES had about 3K modifications from R. Kern and another 3.5K from modwright. I recently upgraded the outboard SS PSU with the tube recified one. I consider the sound quality of my mod 777ES to be much better than the G08.
  3. They were manufactured in either 1989 or 1991. Pretty old unit actually w/o any sort of sound enchancement. I would jump on Deejaybump's D515 in a heart beat if I don't already have two of them. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f43/fs-sony-d-515-discman-268532/
  4. Have you tried the Sylvania 6BL7GTs/GTAs as output tubes? The idea of getting the "SE" option is to run 6BL7/6BX7 tubes. You can also try Tungsol 2c51 (need the adapter), or Tungsol Roundplate (Expensive), or Kenrad VT231 as a driver tube.
  5. Mike told me that the Zana works great with his L3000 and HD-650. I'm sure those will be great for them. I wish I can check out the Zana Deux myself. Will have to pay Mulveling a visit one of these days. Purk
  6. The toaster MPX3 should have slightly better tonality b/c stainless steel is a better ground plane than aluminum, according to Mikahil. However, the powder coated chassis MPX3 might have a more quite blackground b/c the chasis is more solidly built. Both amps should sound great and should sound great with many headphones. If you decide to pick either amp up, I recommend you to get the ECC1 adapter and upgrade the MPX3 to a high voltage upgrade, that way you can use the 6BL7/6BX7 as output tubes.
  7. Yep....the D-25S is better than average but nothing special. If you can find the D-303 in a nice condition....go for that. I've yet to listen to any PCDP with a nicer lineout than the Sony D-303. Again, I yet to try the Denon DCP-100 and DCP-150. The D555 is also overrated in my book.
  8. My PM is down from 475 to merely 174. Hopefully I get them back.
  9. If you can fine one, I highly recommend the Exemplar Denon 2900. The price on audiogon is between 1300 to 1600 USD. Exceptional performance in redbook, DVD-A, and SACD and a very nice DVD player to boot. I personally think the Denon 2900 is one level above your Modwright Sony DVP-999ES and slightly better than the Meridian G08. I'm sure Vickie and Hirsch also agree with my findings. The SACDmods C555ES that I used to have stands no chance against the 999ES let alone the Exemplar 2900. I currently use the Exemplar 2900 w/ my SDS+R10 with excellent results.
  10. Thanks for the info. Is the clone Orpheus use the same driver elements as the original HE90I? The original matched driver elements for the HE60 are listed at 300 USD while the HE90 elements are listed over 2700 USD. I'm very curious about the aspect of driver elements actually.
  11. My headphone collection is half of what you have; therefore, I think your are twice as crazy as I am. Of course, I was pretty crazy about the R10. I used to own three of them but...now down to one.
  12. Yep..he is. But to be a real king of headphones, he needs to obtain the ATH-L3000G. C'mon, the green L3000 can't be that tough to find. Only 50 ever made....
  13. Man...I wish I don't have to spend $825.00 on a car repair right now. :'(

    Preamps!

jpak, I can see pics just fine.
  15. He has been missing in action for awhile now. I think I need to pay him a visit.
  16. That's why I have many systems. Redundancy baby!
  17. But you have more highend headphones than anyone!!!!
  18. Agreed. I'm a big fan of his work myself but the promptness has been somewhat of an issue with SP lately.
  19. Your DHA-3000 is one special amp for those ATs. The DHA3000 alone is superior to Singleower MPX3 if not on the same level as a Singlepower Supra at driving the L3000. What do you think of your combo? The DAC inside the DHA3000 is pretty nice and probably on par with the DAC inside of my Sony SCD-1 when playing redbook. I also have the HA2002 which is very similar to the HA5000 and the L3000 out of my DHA3000 is a level or two above my HA2002+Sony SCD-1 + L3000.
  20. I will add my 2 cents. I use my DHA3000 with both headphones before with excellent results. My SDS-SE works even better than the DHA3000 with the L3000.
  21. I'm looking for Qualia too, but they are difficult to come by. How about getting the original Omega for your collection? Dang...I only have 39.
  22. Elephas, How many headphones do you own now? 40?
  23. Wonder if someone will fall for this scam.
  24. My experience with SP audio is very similar to others here, but once my amps were delivered...thier wonderful sound are worth the wait.
