Bands you don't get that everyone else seems to like
And here I thought I liked you. \ I agree that Portishead is boring... I've never understood why people put them up on a podium. To me it is just standard middle of the road trip hop. That said, I still like them, just get irritated at how everyone else seems to LOVE them. Radiohead has a couple good songs, but in general I think they suck monkey balls. Tried listening to Flaming Lips recently and didn't really get it. Oh, and my number one pick... Scott Walker

Don't know who the fuck he is, but I wish I could get 80 CD's of people I do know for that price!

6H30 tube question (+intro)
Ok, good. Had me worried there. Parts Connexion used to sell the new stock sovteks for under $20. I've never tried the electro harmonix ones.

The Headcase Stax thread
Well, when I buy an item in the $100-$500 price range I usually say something like: "If you wouldn't mind marking down the value of the item a bit, it would help me avoid some taxes, but I understand if you choose not to." Is that being a wanker? I've never forced someone to do it, and with certain items or very high dollar items I actually ask that they declare the full amount and insure it to help avoid any problems with me receiving the package. I would also never back out of a sale because someone decides not to under declare. That is their choice, and I respect it. I've actually had a couple people under declare packages they've sent to me without me asking for it. Luckily enough this has worked in my favour, but it is the reason that I now ask that they declare full value when it is an important item.

Deus Ex
Yeah, small world. He got the tattoo after we stopped hanging out, but that didn't stop him from showing it to me in the middle of the street when we bumped into eachother after he had gotten it. It is pretty cool, but kind of overly large for the amount of detail IMO. I like mine better.

Deus Ex
I actually know that guy. We used to hang out and play pen & paper Planescape [AD&D], but he got all snobbish and weird. I still see him every once and a while as he is a cashier at the supermarket that I get groceries from. Also, I agree, Morte was a great character.

Samuels vs Levinson
Lots of high end sources have word clock input. You know that pro audio gear can get pretty pricey too right?

I think that is a pretty good deal, congrats.

Samuels vs Levinson
I'm not saying anyones rig is bad, but I've always found coax digital connections to be superior to optical digital connections when you use a good coax cable. In a computer as source setup optical is preferable though since it doesn't pick up as much noise from the computer.

$40 headphones for a friend
That's true, and I don't think he has as discerning ears as we do. They can sound quite nice for the price when amplified properly, but at that point you are spending much more on the amp than on the headphones. I'll let him try them anyways, and if he likes them that is the way we'll go. Otherwise I'll look into these Stagg headphones and the Phillips. Thanks for the help guys and girls.

$40 headphones for a friend
Actually, I have a pair of HD201s in my closet, but sort of ruled them out since they are a bitch to drive. Maybe I'll bring them over to his place to try them out just in case. If memory serves, the cord is pretty crazy long on them stock.

$40 headphones for a friend
Good point, I didn't even think about the cord. His TV is a 32" (or around there) widescreen LCD. He'll be using this for Xbox360 duty, action movies and quite possibly porn. I think that is why he wants closed. So far, those Phillips are looking like my best bet. More recommendations are welcome though.

Thanks, googled it already anyways. I'm not a big sportsfan in any respect... I don't just disregard american football.

Take a look at my new Blue Circle SBH Headphone and preamp
They aren't badly designed though, just have terrible build quality. That is the difference in my mind. Neither is excusable, so I'm not trying to advocate McAlister Audio. I just think there is a clear difference between someone like him and Ray or Rudi. Ray's build quality is absolutely stellar, but he tends to give you a poorly implemented power supply and a rehashed design that usually has some issues. Rudi seems to do things differently than other designers, and though I don't have the technical knowhow to debunk the designs myself, I trust Kevin Gilmore's opinion. Also, though I love my amp now, I can't really say I've had good results from dealing with Peter. I certainly got a good initial price, but only through the hard work of many friends have I managed to get the amp to a point where I am happy with it.

Head-Case t-shirt ideas
hehe, P Diddy actually made an appearance in my listening session last night. I'm not a fan or anything, but his cameo in the Busta Rhymes album I was listening to was alright. Oh, and I just find the word beefy amusing.
