  1. are you just choosing to ignore all the discussion about lampizator design, across multiple threads? but you heard it once, you're clearly the expert here
  2. yeah i read the rest of the thread, can i drop it in without any changes to the rest of the circuit? i think i have some of those dual j74 things in a metal can that i was saving for the ubal board
  3. I'm excited for the pots but not for unsoldering the 50k unit off kerrys board because I've been a dumbass
  4. l700 also sounds artificially hifi? that's kind of disappointing
  5. good spot to use the 4ch tkd's everyone grabbed
  6. Let me aggregate some of the details so I'm on the same page: 1) R1, R3 = 422r (CCS resistors) 2) R13, R15, R28, R30 = 402r 3) Targeting -/+20: AMB regulators: sig78 10K and 133K, sig79 10k and 160K 4) LED = LTST-C170CKT Using the AMB stuff we can just leave the underside of the PSU section unpopulated
  7. oh I was comparing to the Lite-ON 859-LTL-4213 that I use for the larger boards.. so does it matter then? will I just have a harder time adjusting the offset/balance if I use the 1.9Vf I grabbed? also has anyone tried to use bog-standard 7x15 parts for this?
  8. Kerry's BOM lists SMD LEDs with a 1.9V forward drop, compared to the 2.1V we've historically used. Just wanted to double check these are ok since Kerry was planning to scrub things anyway. This thing is a pain in the ass to solder by hand
  9. i still have a pair of boards i haven't been able to trouble shoot, my offset was way off, something around 2v. need to fish them out sometime
  10. he has a few of his designs available for diy available at https://www.teddypardo.com/diy.html if you were interested in some schematics. I assume only the power supply part mattered for him anyway, and the headphone amplifier is something standard but who knows Those cases seem nice enough for a dynalo mk 2...
  11. damn I already placed an order, nbd though on a related note, have you listened to the amplifier with and without the sig78/79 regulators? curious if there was a marked difference, it adds a fair amount of cost to the build.
  12. nah i meant as in i want to read more about haha sorry if that came off the wrong way
  13. we need a separate thread for talking about instrumentation
  14. only one HV power supply necessary, and 4 copies of a small board. Seems like it's either this or the SRX+
  15. is this some sort of elaborate troll
  16. i have a 330v edcor left over which would be perfect for this project. which psu version is that? i don't remember the lv electrolytic being situated like that
  17. some of the more obscure audio forum discussions suggest that the clocks necessary for this kind of upsampling aren't up to snuff, with respect to jitter etc. I can see the utility in being able to handle all these different formats though, I just never really got into DSD formats Seems like all the switching would wreak havoc on this kind of system too but that's just my conjecture
  18. what are the technical merits of converting pcm to these high dsd formats? i'm pretty set on pcm at this point but still curious
  19. i'm sure if i put my head far enough up my own ass i'd be able to hear what the golden gate sounds like without purchasing one
  20. Spectral was charging me like 175/hour with a minimum of 3 or 6h to have it repaired, plus parts costs (the feet melted off). I ended up selling it for parts. It was a real shame, I liked the sound but the experience of owning one was such a pain. Funny you mention cetoole, I think I have like 5 of his I/V boards lying around somewhere.
  21. Does anyone have a BOM for the transportable version going? I'm trying to place an order to intercept the board arrival. On a side note I like the switching supplies only costing ~11 a pop
  22. I think the MHDT Havana uses the PCM56, nothing particularly impressive. I was more throwing it out there if you wanted to try it out in a DIY affair. There are quite a few factors but I've never come across an R2R that I didn't like, mostly because they all have a similar quality where the treble isn't harsh. Lets me listen for hours on end, which is usually how I benchmark my equipment these days. I've mostly convinced (deluded?) myself into thinking that this is the correct way to reproduce treble. The soundstage presentation has always been different enough for me to prefer them over D/S solutions as well, mostly wider to keep things concise. Just a bit of context. I think among all of these I've enjoyed the AR-T Segue (AD1862) and the Yggdrasil (AD5791) the most among the ones I've owned at this point (Adcom GDA600, Spectral off the top of my head). Of course those are the only ones I ended up keeping. I was attracted the Yggdrasil because of the marketing hype surrounding the closed-form filter. I'm mostly interested in rolling my own balanced kludge at this point, to see if the AD1862 lives up to the hype if you invest some effort into modernizing all the different stages. Unfortunately I lack the willpower (brain) to do something like implement my own filter, etc. Not to mention all the repeated whining I do over SPDIF. I'm curious to see what Kevin has in the works for his DAC. On that note I need to find out how to see how to modify the PMD100 for use where an NPC filter currently sits...
  23. I think they still make the PCM56 which is still good up to 16 bits
