  1. Actually, I was thinking of taking four RS Hornets and doing something with them. It would take two to a channel in a bridged format. Then I would have mono blocks for a really crappy pair of cube 4" box speakers from Rat Shack and a source CD/DVD player from Daewoo. A perfectly matched system. No fancy schmancy $10,000 dac needed. This leaves in excess of $8500 for beer and pretzels.
  2. This is a reprint on a thread complaining about the Apollo's 8lb weight. You guys got to get rid of that old thinking. New technology is at hand. No, I definetly do not weigh down my Apollo. It just does not need that. The thick cast alum. is ultra rigid. The Apollo has better bass and is an all around better sounding player, without faults, than the 28lb "BIG name brand" I just bought Tuesday. That 28lb.unit is a current Stereophile "A" rated item and it has been reviewed as a great unit many times. It shall remain NAMELESS for now though. A brand new 28lb player and I am going to have to tear it apart and soup it up just to be in contest with the Apollo. However I do have my reasons. Yes, the bass and midrange is much improved in this Apollo. It is probably due to the mod I did. But anyone who can soldier would be able to do this for about $5, a trip to Rat Shack, and a half hours work. The Apollo now outshines even my modded Denon 3910. However I am not done modding the Denon yet. Not by a long shot. The Denon does have new op-amps (soon to be replaced altogether), rebuilt/beefed up powersupply, and a new master and several smaller clocks with less than 1ppm.
  3. I sold a 1964 Epiphone solid body a couple of years ago. Boy was that EVER a BIG mistake. Gibson has a new Les Paul out now. It is a thin solid body with a flat front, two single coil pick ups and the cutouts are open around the neck on both sides. Very retro and standard looking with the old style black pickguard. I really want one though. It has got to be light weight and close action on the strings. It is solid mahogony with a set neck for $750. I would replace the single coils with stacked (single coil looking) humbuckers and split coil them. It would be a lifetime keeper then.
  4. Wow! Good going Grado. It looks like you almost have made a real headphone now.
  5. Kool Beans! Let me know when the production models are ready.
  6. Also to note, this thread was killed at HeadFi. See "cassino" posting......IM ROYALLY PISSED NOW.
  7. I now wish I knew what other broken in Apollo's sounded like (I forgot) or to have one hear to compare. But mine has developed quit a bit of bass or as much as most other CDP's have. Is this due to the mod or not?
  8. Reports from Craig as follows: The Zana Duex: Yes I am making the ZanaDuex, it will be firm at $1800.00. Separate power chassis. The caps used are the paper, poly soy caps. You will not find them on line. They were made custom for Moth, in America. I have enough to make 12 Zana Duex's. The first proto will be hand wired from the input jacks to the front switch. The production amps will use relay switching at the rear panel. The tube compliment is one 6SL7 and two 6C33C-B's, and two 6DM4A damper diodes. Now onto the new EC-H:The EC-H does not sound as good as your ZanaDuex, but may offer an alternative for people not wanting to get a second mortgage to support this hobby. There you have it, straight from Mr. Eddie Current himself.

  11. Has anyone tried the new vibrating "Anal-logue Bass Frequency Butt Plug", by chance. Impressions on it would be nice to hear.

  13. Thats too bad. I know you had thoes problems but how did it go when you got to your Dad's house? Did you get hurt there too?
  14. Don't set it on the edge of the bath tube while listening to it and you will be alright. And even if you did do that, and it fell in, you woulden't even notice the change in sound quality after a second or two.
  15. The Zana Duex....................... http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/5996/zana1ec.jpg
