at some point Al and I need to compare the sonic studio 302 (ULN-2) to the Amarra 4 (ULN-. While I think the 8 will best the 2 in all areas I think it might be shades or grey as opposed to black and white. I am looking for a reason thought to go ULN-8 at some point. I get the apprehension for those that will use it just as a dac but for those with vinyl these make really nice phono pre amps and can also serve as a system pre amp.

Matt has a magic box that debuted unspectacularly at CanJam, it was still in beta and was hit and miss in LA. It takes the digital stream from the LOD and feeds it to a dac in the same box then feeds it to a 1/8 out. Same form factor as the ALO Rx that he designed as well. I took a bunch of time with it at RMAF and really liked it, it was dicey with my iphone 3G but worked well with all ipods. He is working on the iphone 3g issue. I walked away from portable a year or two ago but after the JH13s with the pico and then the Rx got the bug again.

Tyler try the ALO Rx amp it is just about a perfect match for the 13s, so much so that I am selling off the pico and netbook and going iphone/Rx. I'll probably get the dac/ipod(iphone) digital device when Matt comes out with it. I am considering complete madness and going balacing act with these but need to stop by and hear it again. Also the BA makes a killer pre amp.

Wave Editor for $79 or Peak le for $99. Peak is easier to break up tracks and burn CDs but WE sounds better and has better sample rate conversion and dithering tools.

I really like Vinnie and think he is a stand up guy but his power amps have their limits and are great as a compromise between , heat, size, power and SQ. I thought the F1 was the better amp for the k1000 in a head to head with the sig 30 amp but YMMV. I like the battery solution for items that may not need huge amounts of power like a cdp or pre amp but question their usage on high draw power amps

I have not been a fan of the Graham Slee stuff having owned the phono pre and auditioned one of the headphone amps. You can likely do better elsewhere and x2 on the slim devices stuff for a decent cheap source.
