  1. Diode test? Or, what I have done may times to find issues or faulty parts, is measure resistance at various parts of the circuit between the good and bad boards - not the most accurate and sometimes the values fluctuate at certain parts of the circuit, but differences here can point to the culprit fairly quickly.
  2. How about some 4channel TKD pots?
  3. Happy birthday!
  4. That can't be possible. The reseller in the focal utopia thread at the other site ( who sells Woo, Cavalli, Mr. Speakers and Focal, but not Stax) said that Stax 009 are vintage and antiquated, and that it is easily bested by the Ether E, and that the Ether E will be the premier estat once released. I hope folks aren't saying that either he is an idiot or a liar.
  5. I may be overly sceptical, but I just assumed these were made offshore and then cased up in the US of A. Would make for a very nice profit margin as well as afford the ability to just stick a new board into anything that might be returned for repair.
  6. that is pretty ancient now. That said, no clue re two versions, just the current one.
  7. They all do it, including the T2. Its normal.
  8. Where did you find the normal bias socket for your 727?
  9. Have a wonderful birthday, Kerry!
  10. they do look to be 5v versions
  11. The one I had made was for the standard amp boardsets. To fit the shrunk amp board you would need a new toplate and brackets. The psu board is practically the same.
  12. ... don't know if we would even be given protectorate status... we'll have to see what Her Majesty the Queen and Prime Minister Poutine can negotiate...
  13. I dont think Canada has become part of China (yet), and his shop is about 15 minutes from my house....
  14. Amen
  15. that is strange. What tubes did you use? I have swapped multiple quads of old and new EL34s with no perceptible change in balance and offset. My experience has been like Kerry's, you set it and forget it. The only time I have seen differences is with the 6dj8s if both halves of a tube were significantly out of balance.
  16. curious to know where you sourced them. I have bought fakes
  17. ^ this! Awesome work as always! By the way, what switch are you using there?
  18. Yeah, the servos really aren't needed from my experience as well - it is super stable from the get go and settles very quickly.
  19. just the resistors on the psu
  20. Kerry, is that pot cut out for an Alpha or one of the small TKDs? I thought you were going with a board mounted pot earlier, but may be misremembering.
  21. It's like a whole album of "how to disappear completely", but with even more melancholy, and more refined sound. If the individual songs were buried on the earlier albums they would probably be seen as "refreshing" gems, but I get the apprehension when it's a whole album of the stuff.... (disclosure: Radiohead fan boy)
  22. Guessing it is one that will/might grow on you. For post OK Computer, I would certainly put it above KoL, put below Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief. Waiting for the non-festival tour dates now...
  23. Yes, listening now too! Very pleased with this... and studio version of "True love waits" finally released.
