  1. Good luck with day 2 Brent! Hang in there!
  2. Wishing the best for your dad Marc...
  3. I'll try to post a pic tonight...
  4. The Hakko tips have a sleeve that is removable in them. Each tip includes one. In the manual I found online, these were not shown...
  5. Did the replacement tip have that inside sleeve like the Hakko tips do? If not, grab the one out of your Hakko tip and see if it fits... not sure if the bit spinning some is a problem, but I guess it would bother me as well.
  6. Anyone doing a dynafet from the latest GB might also be interested in those...
  7. Was there a BOM posted? I looked thru the thread, but may have missed it.
  8. Sorry to hear that Ken. Yes, surgery always has risks...
  9. Met Jim (morphsci) for lunch today. I had a DAC to let him try, and he was up here picking something else up. Nice lunch, and good conversation. Much more enjoyable than my normal lunch, and great to see him again.
  10. Not sure what you were looking at, but I've had a Basement Watchdog for quite a number of years (mid '90s when we lost power and got probably 1-2' of water in our basement). I think it is supposed to run for ~7 hours if you lose power. Of course if you were motivated enough, you could rip batteries out of your cars and extend the run time
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. And good job Brent. When I had my surgeries, they only gave me Vicodin I got pretty used to only sleeping an hour at a time for at least a couple weeks. Keep at it and know it will get better!
  13. Thanks Reks. The fix only lasted a couple of hours, so out with the logic board, maybe sometime this week. If I can't fix it, I may want to talk to you, but I don't really want to put much money into this thing. I'm starting to remind myself of Spicoli... http://youtu.be/A5cneCgNA9U
  14. Not as serious as those in Irene, but made me pretty happy. Got my Powermac G5 running again. The Apple store "genius" sure as hell couldn't After getting it to boot last Sunday (wife took it down there) after reseating the RAM, only comment was "can't get parts for these anymore". Maybe if you built the parts correctly, this wouldn't be an issue Probably only temporary, as I will wind up needing to pull the logic board and fixing some of the goddamn leadfree solder issues around the DIMM sockets (184 pins x 4). I used a heatgun to heat these up, reinserted the memory (after allowing it to cool). Boot... yay! First time in a week. Passed memtest twice on the RAM I have installed. Sent the 2G back to Crucial, so will reinstall when the new (or old) ones return.
  15. Happy Birthday Postjack! Hope you see a good show or something!
  16. Yeah, good luck to all of you in the path. Stay safe!
  17. Happy Birthday!
  18. Congrats Ric (and Melissa)! This Guru you speak of... this is he of Dynahi (in)fame?
  19. I just remember when I started into this (with my early '90s SR-60s being the only phone I owned), building my first Cmoy/A47 and how badly it kicked the headphone out on the Hafler DH-110 preamp I had at the time...
  20. You are right, but I was talking more in terms of newbies who might think that $100 is an expensive set of phones... and now I need what? An amp? $500? You're kidding, right?
  21. I have a lot of respect for Pete's work, but I have a bit of a problem with "a starter amp" and "$495" in the same sentence? A Cmoy (or mini3, or Starving Student) is a great "starter" amp... Kinda like when you read a review in Stereophile of a $5K preamp and hear it described as "budget" gear Nice of you to make it available as a loaner to HC
  22. Alright, like I said, I haven't listened to much (any?) of his stuff. BTW, I grew up during the '70s, and I don't really listen to ANY '70s music anymore. Wheels of Fire and Aqualung I might consider. The rest? Heh.
  23. Happy Birthday Matt!
  24. Great idea for a thread! And of course steve hoffman has to be the bestest Not that I have extensively listened to his stuff, but the BS meter feeling is strong with this one...
  25. Happy Birthday!
