  1. I'd take a Rega any day over a Pro-Ject table. I have a P3-24 right now and enjoy it While audio memory is something that's a bit hard to rely on, I think the Planar 3 with RB300 sounded a bit better than the newer package. With Rega, buying used is a decent way to go. Just insist on original packaging. It's smartly done and should survive pretty much anything. Just off the top of my head, I've shipped and received probably 10 times total without any problems. Even if something were to go wrong, replacement parts are very easy to get your hands on and they are reasonably priced.
  2. Use parts that fit. With the voltage and heat in this amp, not to mention it's propensity to blow (historically speaking) if you are not careful and the unavailablity of the circuit boards, I'd save yourself the fustration and not try to shoehorn these resistors into place. You want an amp that will be a soild build for years to come that is troublefree. Just my opinion though.
  3. the info is in the BOM. Simply look up the listed part and check its spacing and go from there.
  4. Steve, I didn't mean to imply that it would be red seal* quality, maybe a mere gold... * click here and scroll down for LOLs -> Wood ID pics, COA info, headphile
  5. Larry? I mean, he has after all cornered the market on woodworking, so why not the T50RP?
  6. Ha! So those cable vendors are necessary evils in this hobby, huh?
  7. I demand recipes with lots of cutting then!
  8. Just giving you a hard time. The HD wasn't a decent option? I see how this could be addicting, though I'm sorta finding lame excuses to use my new Hiromoto. No time to actually cook these days, but soon enough.
  9. Swedish steel?
  10. AKG? Surely they'd fix their own headphones.
  11. Elias, good luck picking apart the voodoo science of three channel amps Grounding is a massively hard to understand art, so *obviously* the thing to do is add a third channel.
  12. amazing what kids learn from their parents. oh wait, that's not called hitting we have a different word for that .. "spanking".
  13. that second question is easy, no. do some research on "lateral" versus "vertical" MOSFETs, in the context of audio.
  14. perhaps a high voltage darlington? They seem to exist, perhaps for SMPS design? http://pdf.datasheet.su/stmicroelectronics/stp03d200.pdf no idea if you can get them...
  15. I believe that part is not recommended for new designs, so it might be hard to find.
  16. Sat through meetings with HP's patent lawyers all .. day ... long...
  17. Imagine playing and buying that was 1 hour old, where the varnish had barely even set It has come a long way in 10 years. 40-50 years sounds good, holy burn-in batman!
  18. I didn't get in on any BF CM "deals" either. First year in a while. Instead I brought shame on my household by getting the "wrong" piece of Japanese steel, perhaps the "right" stone, a X-Mini 2, some resistors from PcX and a book on vintage cocktails and the domain hwhack.us.
  19. Using an external card will still have benefits over using a video card. I've actually looked into this a fair amount.
  20. Looking at Kerry's schematic... perhaps the given values for RV1 and RV2 (as well as adjusting the series resistances on either side of RV1) are suboptimal? Perhaps different values would make the adjustment a bit less tedious?
  21. That's a cool idea
  22. I have the Karneols and have tried pretty much every string they make. I like them a lot. It's nice to have another perlon option on the market. You're going to be a better judge than me. They are cheap and sound good on my instrument, which has just hit the 10 year mark and really seems to be maturing. My ranking is probably: Warchal Karneol, Dominant, Wondertone Solo, Evahs, Larsen (regular) The Larsen regular are great for like 1 week (an exaggeration, but really they're the worst I've seen). I haven't tried the Vision in forever (or Infield). I used the Wondertones for a year or so and liked them, but wanted something cheaper... then I switched briefly back to Dominants and then to the Warchal. Originally I paid $25 a set for the Warchal, looks like they are $35 now, unless you find them on sale (at Quinn). That's about what, $10 cheaper than Dominants?
  23. does anyone perhaps need anything from Percy? I need a few items but not enough to meet the minimum order requirement of $25. I'd be glad to arrange shipping worldwide.
  24. Dude, try the Warshal. Now. I'm perhaps unwilling to spend as much as you, but I'm pretty impressed. I switched from the Evah's. I do like the Obligattos and Dominants, so it might be a worthy suggestion. I get mine from Quinn online.
