1. nah, it will be real easy Ken. I bet there's a good upcharge for the parts and the assembly of the crossover though.
2. heh, didn't open it Here's a "before pic":
3. Kevin: I'm curious, why do you have to use a separate vendor for polishing? Is this prep work not something the anodizer can usually take care of?
4. Just noticed some odd with the two original tubes that I got from Tom. Anyone notice anything strange in the pic?
5. yeah those are pretty cool. I've seen then in some of the street stalls.
6. I'd suggest the KGSS and admitting that your source might be a larger player in the overall puzzle.
7. Cool, I found one not on your list (similar to M8081 probably thhough). There also is at least one Russian tube that has the same pinout.
8. I guess I'm having a brief lapse in the faith, huh?
9. yeah, especially since they haven't gotten back to me about my LCD-1 "upgrade" since we chatted right before CanJam. Then again, I bought the K1K and don't have the cash right now, but that's beside the point.
10. Cool. So far I like the CV4031. Slightly more Rp (6.8K versus 6K) and if I read the data sheet, slightly less gm. Everything else seems the same to me. Since you mentioned it, the plate dissipation is more than the 6J6 (2 x 1.6W versus 2 x 1.1W). The tubes come in nicely overdone packaging, including pin savers. I paid $12 shipped for the pair from the UK. To me it seems like there is better bass control. And perhaps more gain, but I'd have to measure or reread your post above in light of the changes. For now, I'm resting and enjoying the amp
11. anyone else tried any other tubes? or is that sorta verboten discussion here (my last post concerning such things sorta flew under the radar)
12. Perhaps I'm the minority on that, I don't have a lot of experience, but has the idea ever crossed your mind? I compared the custom JH5 to universal JH13 at Can Jam and yeah there were differences, for sure but lots of similarities. After about 15 minutes of A/B/C/X/Y/Z ing I came to the conclusion that I would have no idea how much better the custom JH13 would be than the universal, but my expectation would be pretty high. Also, FWIW I preferred my custom fit, even if it was the lowly JH5 to the universal JH13 (boo hiss I know, but reread the previous sentence again). I'm probably the last person that could really solve this mystery, but this thread was odd enough that I decided to stir the pot a bit.
13. Heh, where's Reks to step in with the sarcasm 'o meter? Anyways, as long as you pay enough, of course I have the skills, even if that involves subcontracting Fitz It would help if I had two pairs though, that way I could mix and match when need be.
14. finally someone that understands me! Just got back to Austin and confused by this thing called "night" I don't really care how many pairs he has, but at first glance my question was why so many pairs and no customs?
15. please explain this more
16. No, I screwed that up. Damn dead hookers all over the place, make typing on the iPhone so much more difficult.
17. I didn't realize you had JH-5 customs!
18. Just listen and enjoy it. If you don't like it then wait the stated number of hours and then ask that it be returned and given a once-over because the burn-in is broken too.
19. Why would anyone own multipe pairs of earbuds/universal IEMs? Seems strange to me, considering how much better the cheapest customs are to any universal i've ever tried
20. I think I just found a new modding business. Upgrading VC wires to 18 AWG Jena. Talk about bass restriction!
21. Heading to Vegas for the week!
22. I would have guessed 100 dB peak at say 12-15 feet away from a piano. That's a rare case though, and probably 90 dB peaks is more common. 120dB seems high to me. I'd be curious to see some data though.
23. perhaps the Pioneer B20FU20 would be right up your alley?
24. perhaps add a small section about cathode connection options, given that this might be linked to in conjunction with this amp that can select between WE and LED options?
