.. And floor space? Heh, I'm up for it Steve!
  3. Has anyone played with biasing capacitors that normally only see AC with a small amount of DC? I know some commercial speaker manufacturers have been doing this for a while (Vandersteen, Infinity, JBL, etc. comes to mind) usually using a battery and often accompanied by fancy marketing speak ("Charge-Coupled Linear Definition Dividing Network"). There is a lot of ink spilled on the subject, but what do you say?
  4. needs moar consensus!

I'd like to make it and bring my speakers, which might entail a road trip. Are there (free?) accommodation for this sort of rig?
  7. in this case the signal is "all frequencies". sorta interesting to watch. I'll see if I can post a sample that does it.
  8. I am using a AT-1005mk2 which I really like, but the Moerch is a good choice. Depends really on the cartridge I guess. Played with the new RB301 this weekend and am not a huge fan... from the new mounting style to the goofy anti-skate adjustment, to the rough finish on the headshell. I prefer the older design.
  9. Congrats Nate! Scary stuff indeed...
  10. I'm thinking about trying a Transfiguration Axia. Has anyone heard it?
  11. yeah, they make their own drivers. I opted for a custom driver, Raidho wouldn't do it, so I talked with Per Skanning and opted on something based on the C-Quenze.
  12. Doug: Is there any way the brightness of the cathode LED could be related to the input frequency? Over the weekend I played a test track through it (One of the Ayre test disc (white|pink|brown) noise tracks) and noticed the cathode LEDs doing a little dance throughout and figured that might be relevant.
  13. I like the Eben line of speakers, but they are out of my price range... so, I managed to OEM one of the ribbons and am pretty close to getting it singing. Pretty nice sounding speakers, IMHO.
  14. I meant more in comparison to the 2 or UNIverse than in general.
  15. Yeah, it was the last cart in the old lineup. Geared towards "rock".
  16. The Airy 3 is the one cartridge that I never really understood in the ZYX lineup. I've compared it to the UNIverse and Airy 2S in one sitting and it didn't seem to have the same sound signature of the others. Lacking in the mids is one way to put it, but I'd say not as much alive as the others. The 2 series was discontinued later as I'm sure you know. Supposedly they (2 and 3) are similar in construction, but perhaps my ears weren't working that day or something.
  17. agreed jp#. It's a fantastic cart!
  18. Love mine
  19. heh: "I just have to heal up and I'll be back out there," Rogers said. "If I get bit again, I'll probably stay out for sure. I'm not testing my luck that much."
  20. Justin: ha! Didn't you know a cmoy breaks down into dual mono at the output jack?
  21. I get 60C on the PT and 60C on the regulator heat sink 105C on the tubes and 50C on the BJTs. This is with the lid off and being on most of the day...
  22. Reks, do you want to dissolve head-case? Yes? Ok, let's auction it off at CanFEST. Just put it up for sale. Do you think anyone would care? Can I get a quorum? I can do that. I can fly to CanFEST and put it up for auction? You don't think I can do that? I can do that right now from this phone.
