  1. Finding myself in need of a stand for my Lambdas and being unwilling to pay the $75 that Stax wants for the HPS-2, I built my own interpretation for free using of scrap lumber from a previous project. In recent years I've developed an allergy to simple butt joints, so dados and rabbets abound in my version.
  2. Any plans to do something about that shitty housing?
  3. In keeping with my long running penchant for putting the cart before the horse, today I whipped up a logo for the Grounded Grid that I hope to build sometime in the next year. If anybody likes it, feel free to use it.
  4. Are you talking about those protein leather pads from China? I saw those a while back and was wondering if they were any good.
  5. I've been listening to my SRS-002 system these past few days (thanks @justin ) and I have to say these little things rock! I've put probably 20 hours of listening time in at work and I am digging them for sure. This is the best portable setup I've heard, and at the price I can't imagine you could do much better. Fit is not an issue for me thankfully! Now for something stupid. I couldn't leave well enough alone so I made a full size Stax adapter and sampled some of my other phones on the SRM-002. It doesn't have the guts to properly drive any of my Lambdas (obviously) but it actually does surprisingly well with my SR-X Mk3. What you see there is my SR-X Mk3 -> Pro Bias to Normal Bias adapter -> 5 pin Stax to mini Stax adapter -> SRM-002. This was done for kicks of course and is not to be taken seriously. In a few days I will be building the much more useful reverse of this adapter so I can use my SR-002 on my SRM-727.
  6. @sorenbIn the chart, do the grounded grid and carbon fields denote a pair of boards or just a single channel?
  7. Does the carbon/grounded grid REQUIRE two separate +/-15V supplies or is that just overkill for the sake of overkill. Basically I want to know if a Blue Hawaii power supply would work for the GG? EDIT: I'm an idiot. I've been seeing a lot of carbons with the split GR LV boards and mistaking it as a pair of +/-15v supplies. I need to pay closer attention to this stuff.
  8. Well that was quick. I was hoping to get in for 1 set of boards for a build way down the road @sorenb
  9. So get this, I emailed Yamas about getting the backing foam inserts for Lambda drivers and they quoted me $12 for a pair, and $16 for shipping. So that's definitely not gonna happen. What do you think about the 009 specifically with the Carbon, I've read a lot of your opinions on the 009 over the years but I somehow failed to catch any updated thoughts from you since the Carbon came into existence. Has the Carbon made them worthy, or does the plugged port Omega 2 mk2.98735 still conquer all?
  10. I dunno, if you slap some output transformers in there (which likely isn't out of the question) you could probably get just about any amp to make them play loud. Prolly won't sound good though.
  11. Yeah but don't you need only like two cell phone towers to cover your whole country?
  12. Sprint and Verizon seem to have some sort of agreement about not activating each other's devices on their networks. The Sprint Iphone 5s is technically compatible with Verizon's network, if domestically unlocked. But Verizon has to whitelist the IMEI in their database in order for you to use the phone with them, a practice that Verizon is known to refuse doing. A workaround that seems to work for a lot of people is to activate a Verizon SIM card on a genuine Verizon phone then swap that SIM card into the unlocked Sprint phone. You should get LTE data and calling that way, but it's somewhat unclear whether you get access to the CDMA network for legacy calling and 3G data where LTE is unavailable. Based on what I know about CDMA and LTE (a GSM technology, hence the SIM card) I am going to assume that you don't get access to the CDMA portion of the network unless you can convince Verizon to whitelist your IMEI. Fun fact, all Verizon LTE phones are unlocked for use on GSM carriers right out of the box due to an agreement demanded by the FCC when they acquired their block of LTE spectrum years ago.
  13. Ok, so I think I know the answer to this, but because I'm a little slow (and fire averse) I'll ask just to be sure. If for some reason someone decided not to populate the 15v supply in the KGBH board, could they perform the modification you described to the amp board and only use the +/-325 from the KGBH supply?
  14. Those tubes probably aren't going to do much without any guts in them.
  15. Thanks. I'll give contact adhesive a try. I think I've got some in a drawer somewhere around here. Also is there a source for that really thin foam that Stax uses on the back of the drivers? The previous owner removed it from these and I don't like how it looks with nothing between the driver and the outer grill. Completely aesthetic I know but I'm picky about stupid things like that. Side note, these LNS still sound surprisingly decent even with the driver detached. I figured they would sound like complete garbage in this state.
  16. So when my Lambda Nova Signatures came in the right hand driver had shifted way off center on the baffle and the left hand driver had fully detached from it's baffle. I repositioned and reattached both drivers using the existing adhesive but I knew that wouldn't be a long term solution. So here we are, 3 days later and the left driver has become fully detached from it's baffle again. Spritzer, do I recall correctly that you once recommended polyurethane glue as a good option for reattaching drivers?
  17. The lambda nova signature that I bought recently had a broken headband arc. Snapped clean in at the seam in the middle. IMO the original lambda arc design is more durable that the newer one. The plastic is more flexible. I wonder why they ever changed it.
  18. Cool. Sounds like this is probably just an over reaction. This kinda reminds me of last year when PJ got duped by a fraudulent supplier for some crazy low priced SR-407s which myself and several people on HF bought. PJ upped the price back to normal the next day and we all were suspicious about what was happening. It took PJ a few days to let everyone know that they had been scammed by the supplier (owned by a shady looking Chinese company, go figure) and couldn't offer the headphones at that ridiculously low price, but instead of charging us full price PJ offered us all the headphones at $100 off the listed price. I am positive that they lost money on that deal, and I'm sure that's more than any other company in their line of business would have done. Their communication wasn't great but they definitely came through for us.
  19. Has anyone over here ordered anything from Pricejapan lately? From some comments over on HF it sounds like something fishy is going on with them. No communication for weeks, no shipping confirmation, no products received etc. It'd suck to lose them, I've had such good luck with them in the past
