I'm more interested in how it sounds. If it sounds good, I don't care how ugly it is. I don't think it looks as bad as others do. That said: Wood side panels, metal fascias == good; tri-color scheme (wood, silver, black), black screws/bolts/retainer clips/whatevers in otherwise light front panel == not so good. I'm thinking if he had gone with a black front panel, or with silver screws and a silver top, either of those choices would have been better.

I think those pics are digitally altered to make them look like they have no necks, not that they actually look like that.

I have a question (about the EEEPC [pronounced "Eh-eh-pic"]): can you install software on it? I mean, what if someone sends you a real file, or a pdf, or if you have a favorite image editor, can you install the appropriate application on it?

I suspect this is the case. Congratulations, it'll save you a lot of heartache and money-ache.

I've heard several Thiels -- a coworker and Dave (dave1 here) both have pairs, though I'm not sure which models. I think one is a 2.x and another is a 3.x. They're good, but require a grunty amp (one uses a modwright modded carver, and the other uses a Bryston). They have a very slightly hyped frequency response (which is well within my personal parameters of what I like, but Hirsch, for example, is not particularly enamored with them -- he's a B&W [Matrix series? I forget] guy). The setup my coworker has is some of the best sound I've ever heard. It includes a MF A308 CD player and a Krell Pre. I would get an in-home audition if at all possible (and yes, buying it used and then reselling it counts as an in-home audition).

I would categorize charging as different. Yeah, I've heard the charging issues, I would have called that "warm up" rather than "burn in". Alright, maybe "dramatic" might be overstating things, but it does seem to take a while for what little change to occur, even if it's just a slight smoothing out of the high frequencies. There's a difference between burn-in taking a long time vs. creating a huge difference, I usually try to phrase my descriptions carefully as to when a difference is huge vs. subtle, and whether or not it's significantly audible vs. not. In fact, a lot of times, it's not significant. I can count on one hand the times it has been significant that I have heard (bass on silver cables, the bass in a certain pair of headphones, several components [including a set of tubes] becoming smoother, and...uh...not much more that I can remember). Does that make sense?

Not really sure, depends what you're into. I've heard good things about Dusty Groove, but that was a while ago, don't know if it's still true.
