Well, just thinking out loud without doing any actual research, doesn't the iPod dock access the internal data from the iPod digitally? Why couldn't they just mimic what it does?

Agreed. And after closer inspection, it looks like they have to modify the iPod, too. Plus, the price is killer. Wadia for $349 or MSB for US$2K? I'm a MSB fanboy, but even I'd go after the Wadia first.

No, not "any" -- a properly set up HT is better than a properly set up 2 channel, the only problem is, that's very hard to do. But I guarantee you, once you hear a nice surround system, and you're tricked into believing you're surrounded by wood sprites (a very nice use of surround in the movie Princess Mononoke), you'd be a believer.

Rock Grotto and iPodStudio set the precedent. After those two, it was easier to just make a rule -- no promoting of forums on head-fi that are in competition with head-fi, directly or indirectly -- and follow it with everyone. He actually does get along with a couple people here -- grawk, in particular. It actually makes sense, from a business perspective, but certainly seems fascist the first time you're hit with it. I mean, if you were an auto insurance company, would you provide links to other auto insurance companies? Alright, yes, you would, if you were going to take on the big names, and claim that you were better than them. I mean, how much sense would it make to say, "we can beat the insurance company that cannot be named that starts with a 'G' and ends with 'EICO' by 15 cents or more"? No, if you really could beat their prices, you'd want to be able to say that you could beat their prices, and exactly whose prices it is you were beating.

It looks cool, definitely -- I love the concept of a "soft" interface -- but the biggest selling point of the iPod is the interface. The iPod's interface. This one is different. Ah well, moot point now.
