  1. I've seen them go for less, but admittedly, not much less. You could probably negotiate $500 if you were patient enough. What about a DAC1, has anyone ever heard one? They gotta be pretty good. L, you could probably get a Rega Planet for $400, but it doesn't have digital inputs.
  2. Those are both good choices, as is the Ack! Dack! I think there's also the DAC-ah, but the one with which I'm familiar distorted, so I can't vouch for their quality control. I've had extensive experience with the MSB Link DAC III (I have two), and heard the Headroom briefly (but enough to put it on my "to buy" list of things to try).
  3. Seems to be a short thread. Billy -- fuck off and die. I don't perceive any foot-in-mouth disease yet. You want to keep spinning it that way, I'll keep calling you out on it.
  4. What was that video that had "Acid" in the title, where it was just a bunch of people dancing around, and they substituted smiley faces for their faces? Does anyone remember?
  5. So where does Razor fit into the chronology? On the SciFi.com website, they're calling it Season 4, but it looks like it goes into the middle of the last episode of 2.5, so I can watch it now, right?
  6. Just finished 2.5. Three things: They killed Billy!!!1! (Yeah, I know, that was earlier than the last episode, but I'm still reeling.) That last episode was a serious mindfuck -- all that stuff about a year from now: Starbuck with her hair all long and freely flowing; Callie pregnant and with the chief; Lee and Dualla; the President living large like a rock star; some tiff between Starbuck and Apollo; I'm surprised they didn't get the President and the Admiral together -- sure seemed like they were heading in that direction. It's like -- we're entering serious stagnant water territory, what could we do to really shake things up a bit. And I did enjoy Callie saying, "Everyone Shut The Frak Up!!!1!" Jesus Mother Frakkin' H. Christ -- I frakkin' hate frakkin' cliffhangers.
  7. No, you're fine, I was just trying to keep a straight face, while attempting humor, myself. I mean, can you imagine transmission-line-based headphones? That said, other than the size factor, not a ludicrous idea. But if you take size (weight, form factor, looks) into account, it goes deep into ludicrous territory. Not sure where the transmission lines would go -- straight out from the ears (if it would be as big as the B&W tweeter enclosure), in a spiral shape around the ears (if bigger), or perhaps behind the head and/or into a "backpack" (if huge). Billy -- not sure what you mean by "field" -- translate?
  8. I'm not sure I understand your question -- I was thinking nautilus shell.
  9. What if one were to leave the drivers in the enclosure...but then put a transmission line on the back end?
  10. You make them both sound so appealing. \
  11. Billy -- -10 reading comprehension points for you -- did you not see the part where she said she hates club/dance music? I would extrapolate that to trance and whatnot. Title? This? That definitely looks interesting. Yeah, like I said, I'll put some thought into it, but since our tastes aren't exactly parallel (not exactly orthogonal, neither), I have no idea if my suggestions would work. Albums: Friday Night in San Francisco -- Paco De Lucia / Al DiMeola / John Mclaughlin? (That's another one I need to add to my ridiculous list.) Golden Earring, Moontan (the American version)? Blue Man Group, Audio? Songs: Mike Oldfield, "Ommadawn Pt. 1" Deep Purple, "April" (full version with 3 parts, second being orchestral -- I have no idea how it's broken up in iTunes or whatever) -- they have a couple other longer songs in their earlier stuff -- Shades of..., Book of Taliesyn, and Deep Purple Queen, "Prophet Song" Manfred Mann's Earth Band, "Time is Right" (actually that whole sequence from Nightingales & Bombers, "Spirits in the Night"/"Countdown"/"Time is Right" is really cool) -- see also "Road to Babylon", "Drowning on Dry Land/Fish Soup", "Chicago Institute", "Don't Kill it Carol", "Stranded"... I have a live version of The Fixx playing like a 15 minute version of "The Fool". Ministry, "So What" Side one of the Vienna album by Ultravox, the alternate sequencing: "Sleepwalk"/"Passing Strangers"/"New Europeans"/"Private Lives"/"Astradyne" is nicely energetic if you're into that New Romantic thing, which IIRC you aren't (feel free to say so). Here's a Pandora station based on those songs in your list that I could find. Not suggesting you try to hook up a computer at your trainers', but you could listen to it and see if it gives you ideas. It seems to be on a flamenco kick for me right now.
  12. So basically, you don't want "typical" workout songs and mention no criteria for success other than your familiarity...sounds like you just wanted us to picture you sweating. Okay, I'll think about this and post something constructive later. Rodrigo Y Gabriela rule. I'll have to add that to my favourite albums list -- I would suggest that whole album. I really like their take on "Orion", but that's my familiarity, not yours.
  13. That's pretty fucked up. Unless they are indeed putting it through MOSFETSses as well as tubes, but then that's hardly "pure" tube sound.
  14. I like how the tubes look like they're in those tubes like from Event Horizon or whatnot. Click pic for info link.
  15. Response to OP: that's a good way to get yourself banned. Or a really lame custom title, like "demanded this". Or no custom title at all, ever.
  16. One of Hirsch's turntable rigs -> Alesis Masterlink @ 24/96 -- I thought they were good.
  17. (a) The Suprema's are supposed to be nice; ( I think they're still worth a listen. I don't know too many high-efficiency loudspeakers that like being pushed -- that's not their forte. They like to be driven well at reasonable volumes. I've never heard someone describing any high-efficiency speaker as, for example, "rock and roll". Except maybe JBL's.
  18. We were on storm watch all day today, and nuthin' happened.
  19. You should donate them to some poor college kid. Ask for a school ID.
