Not too shabby.

I love it when an impulse buy works out.....

Dude, Pandora. Take the time to set yourself up a radio station properly: start by picking the most prototypical song you can think of in the style that you want to hear more of. Let's say you want an entire radio station that sounds like Social Distortion's "Ball and Chain" -- you click on "create a new station", enter "Ball and Chain", scroll down 'til you get to the Social Distortion choice, then click it. Voila, you're done. Well, not quite -- you're well on your way, and if that's all you did, you would probably be pretty happy, but you should do more. As songs play, click the thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons -- only if you really like or really hate the song (or more accurately, "really think that song is appropriate for this radio station", or "really think it is inappropriate"). Also, while they're playing, if you can think of any other songs of a similar vein, then here's what you do: Left-click on the down triangle next to "ball and chain radio", and click "add more music to this radio station"; Enter other songs as you did similarly. Also, if you screw up, you can always left-click->edit, and remove added songs, and songs you've "approved" or "disapproved". Have fun! Experiment. Oh, and apparently -- Slim Devices and Pandora have some sort of agreement, and the whole interface is somehow compatible with the transporter. So if you like what you hear, you should look into that. You can approve and disapprove straight from the remote. -
I'm not the biggest Grado connoisseur -- was that horseshoe-shaped thing always there, is that new, did it used to go all the way around, or what?

You may want to wait a bit -- it's been rumoured that a Bernstein set will be released on SACD: link

I agree, too. If you're trying to decide between the two, then you have enough doubts about one to be with the other, and vice versa, then you shouldn't marry either one. Don't get married until you meet the girl that you feel you have to marry.

You may not.[me=Dusty Chalk]assumes an indignant air.[/me] Tell us more about both women. Which one has the interest in audio (if either)? How about the other one -- does she tolerate music, or what? Religions? How does it compare to yours? Which one has the wealthier parents? Is either one a drama-queen? I friggin' hate drama queens. Do either of them have a hot older sister? Aunt? Single mom? Live in the DC area?

Dude, the last time most of us saw a chick naked in real life (I.E. on purpose, for us, not running away, etc.), the twin towers were still standing. How old are you? You look too young to be getting married.
-
I understood that. I was just responding. When I order 'ice tea', I get 'iced tea'. So I think most people take them as synonymous.
-
You are?!?!? Holy shit, when did this happen? Make up your (virtual) mind, please. BTW, most Pittsburghers are more polite than that -- they won't shoot you, they'll just look at you with a frown like they're trying to figure out if you're from out of town or not. Then sell you whatever it is you want. Pop is like rock, except not as hard (just hard rock is like heavy metal, only not as hard). I might ask what sodas a soda jerk (heh-heh) has, but if I'm ordering something, I'll order it specifically. I usually drink iced tea (which I pronounce, 'ice tea'), anyway.

I know, I's just giving you carp. Chicago roxors as well. I been there (used to go there all the time -- relatives).

They exist. I've heard people on audiokarma like the...erm...something "audiophile"...soundblaster? Then of course there's the FOTM from several years ago...the ART DI/O...but that doesn't have USB.

Recommend me some universal players
Dusty Chalk replied to postjack's topic in Home Source Components
Yup. LOL. Yeah, screw universal player -- you can always get one of those later -- get the L3000. Especially since it's recabled. -
I watched a couple more episodes of Serenity. 2nd time through, at a more leisurely pace.

link #1 link #2 link #3 Sweet -- MoFi is involved.

Well, the joke doesn't work if you throw actual logic at it.

No, you could always use one machine to cryo another, then use that machine to cryo the first. That way, the last machine to get cryo'd gets cryo'd by a cryo'd machine. That is, if it still works after the cryo process.
-
Someone should put those in a fortune file. No, wait, who would use it? Never mind.

MSB Link DAC III, yes. The previously described setup is -- SACD/DVD transport with analog outputs plugged into analog inputs of DAC, then listen to outputs of DAC. If there's no digital input to the DAC, then it plays through the analog inputs, so there's no plugging and unplugging necessary, but a small amount of deterioration due to the additional connections. That's my home system, which I hardly listen to. My work system is the 3910, pretty much. The Apollo is currently not being used. I'll probably hook it up to my speaker rig once I fix my vintage Pioneer SX-5590 receiver which blew an output. (It sounded pretty good right up until it blew the output -- had it refurbbed with black gates.)
-
Yes, and yes. I love my 3910. I just put 'shiny disc' in, and it plays. I don't need to think about it -- do I listen directly out of the player for SACD or high-res DVD-A, or from the DAC for redbook, or turn off upsampling for HDCD and DAD's? Shiny ==> play. The end. But hYdrociTy was talking in the digital domain. If not, one can always get an external HDCD DAC. I think someone (grawk, perhaps?) once posted a link on how to use WMP to decode HDCD's in the digital domain.
