  1. What? You don't have your own opinion, you haven't even heard it yet. You specifically said that you are regurgitating others' opinions. And yes, I am kind of secure in the knowledge of that.
  2. No-one said that, don't put words in our mouths. You know, you pride yourself on thinking for yourself, yet that's exactly the opposite of what you're doing. You're brainwashing yourself into defending this amp without even having heard it yet. And that's what everyone else has done. Which is why you see so many positive comments about it. If you've listened to more than one other amp in your life (although I have to admit, you picked a good one to start with), I'd listen to more of what you have to say, but for now I'm just going to take what you say with one seriously motherfucking giant grain of salt. Just get it already, listen to it, then decide whether or not it's any good. That's the only way. But read some of the comments here about how he handles returns. You won't get that sort of feedback on Head-Fi.
  3. Well, at least she's not quitting the music business. I've decided that this will be like getting two almost-as-good Gathering-type bands for the price of one. Sort of/not really.
  4. I, too, vote for you getting as much sexual attention as you can for $10, as that is obviously what you need. PWND!!!1!
  5. Oh, yeah, I knew that. Yeah that's fine whenever...maybe the following weekend or something...
  6. ( Article: http://www.antimusic.com/news/07/june/0608.shtml Her new project: http://www.myspace.com/aguadeannique And I repeat: (
  7. Can I come over this weekend? I'll bring the W3000's...
  8. I like Stereophile, but they don't know jack shit about headphones or headphone amps. Ken Kessler is the only reviewer I even remotely trust when it comes to headphone technology. Also remember, they probably paid a fraction of what you're going to pay for it -- reviewers get insider prices. Like I said, just make sure you can return it. Oh, and by that reasoning, you should get a Grace m902 -- probably the single most frequently used headphone amp as a reference in studios. Go ahead, ask over at gearslutz(.com).
  9. No, I don't think they should come with warnings -- people like you know they're listening too loud -- you knew when you were younger, you said it yourself, you suffered from "invincible syndrome". Not only is she aware, she's the one that prescribed me to do so. She's basically maxing me out on them right up to the safe limit. I've actually told her that this is barely enough, and is there any way that she could push me a little farther (for example, by also prescribing me Singulair), and she said no. I was taking Claritin when I was unemployed -- it doesn't work as well for me as Allegra. Not sure what's wrong with combining Sudafed/Allegra -- one's an antihistamine, the other's a decongestant.
  10. 4, here, as well: allegra, nasonex, astelin, sudafed. I turn it down. Louder doesn't help -- it seems to be registering on a completely different plane. I try to just mentally concentrate on listening to the music, lubricate and clear the nasal passages often (I'm really prone to sinus infections). Funny story -- we have two bathrooms, one male, the other is supposed to be for handicapped, but it's unisex. When I go to...uh..."keep my nose clean", I usually use that one. Of the two times that I used the men's bathroom, both times my boss has walked in on me. He didn't say anything either time, and the first time he just shook his head.
  11. So what's the opinion of Gergiev? I have his Pictures on SACD, and it's quite good. I noticed he's done some of Shostakovich's symphonies, and I want to try out some Shostakovich -- are his a good place to start? For comparison's sake, I really like von Karajan -- if he's done something that I want to hear, I make sure and get his version. On another note, I need more. I really liked that Bartok Concerto for Orchestra on Living Stereo. Anything like that? I don't know what to call it, modern romantic? Also: Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, stuff like that -- big, melodramatic, and written in a minor key. I also need more chamber music, like Schubert's stuff -- any recommendations for his Trout as best recording/performance? How about Death and the Maiden? Any other chamber music I should check out?
  12. I wouldn't necessarily blame the Sennheisers -- there's no way on earth that all those earlier incidents aren't contributing. That said, I have tinnitus, and in my case, it's largely allergy induced. I can't say you just get used to it, but let's put it this way -- life goes on. Life with music goes on. It's just annoying.
  13. Or you could get a completely no-name like the Sigtone Shek or the T.M.S. T200 Mk II (this latter one is the one I think I was thinking of earlier, but it doesn't look quite right, and I can't seem to find the previous seller.
  14. I disagree -- I mean, c'mon, it goes up to 11! (And yes, I've seen confirmation that that is indeed a purposeful Spinal Tap reference.)
  15. The Headroom, Apogee, Benchmark, and Grace units would all be on my short list, and all but the Headroom frequently show up used on audiogon, eBay, and H**d-F*. So I'd take it slowly and buy all the others one at a time at a decent price and try them all, and sell off the ones you don't like. I'd save the Headroom for last, because it's probably the best choice, and that's the one you're probably going to end up with, so by then you'd have a warm fuzzy that you're making the right decision. There's also a tube based one with a USB input from the same gal who sold a co-worker their Xiang Sheng -- I don't remember if it's also a Xiang Sheng, I'll look later. Also, the thing to look at is the drivers -- do your research, and make sure you buy one that bypasses the kmixer, or has the option to do so.
  16. I don't want to revisit the thread right now, but the guy said the speakers were from quite a while ago, I think he mentions a year and dimensions. Are those the same speakers? And, IIRC, those in the picture are just a bunch of HP1 drivers or something. Maybe RS1 drivers. It's in the first NY meet thread. And re: troll -- I have insider information. It could still be wrong, though.
  17. Which ones, the L3000? Yeah, maybe. The 4070? I don't even own them yet.
  18. Except (a) he's probably just regurgitating information from Stereophile, and ( has he even heard it for himself? Just make sure that if/when you buy it, you're able to return it. So, you actually listen to salesmen? I bet they love you.
  19. Link Warning: do not engage, this guy is most probably a troll. But if anyone lives near this guy, definitely try to get yourself invited up for a listen.
  20. :D I actually did think about selling them, I have still not come to grips with their sound signature. But then I remembered that I love them. So, no.
  21. And most importantly, the two RSA amps I heard (admittedly: under meet conditions, etc.), were a terrible match with W2002's, which were my headphone of choice back then. Oh, and you'll definitely want to keep whatever tube amp you end up getting on the outside of the isolation booth, otherwise it will get intolerably warm in there.
  22. Carl has. I'm getting a pair, for no other reason than to try them. Stax markets them as one of their top two headphones (the other being the Omega II's), and that alone was enough to entice me, but Carl's review made me drool even more. It's over on that other H**d-F* site, but he's also a member here.
  23. The W2002's were great headphones, I kind of regret selling mine, but I just never listened to them. I never heard wrong with them what everyone else didn't like about theirs. They're also easily the most gorgeous headphones ever, anywhere.
  24. Because we're not allowed to, at least, not through Head-Fi.
  25. I haven't been following -- what's a 595? I mean, I know it's a pair of headphones, but where does it rate in Sennheiser's lineup? Do they even qualify as decent headphones? Closed, open, somewhere in the middlin'? Do they have that family sound? Do they "scale like bastards"? In other words, HOW DO THEY SOUND? I'd write to them. Tell them you really wanted your HD580's back, and if they don't have another headband, could they please just give you a headband from the HD600, you don't care if they don't match (it'd be a collector's item on Head-Fi -- just like MacDEF's one MDR-7506 driver/one MDR-V6 driver headphones). That is, if you really don't prefer the 595's. If you do, then I'd write them and say, "thanks for replacing my HD580's with 595's, they are an adequate substitute, your customer service is the best". Or some such.
