  1. This is a close cousin to the performer's nightmare. The real performer's nightmare is usually of the form that you're a soloist at a venue "out of your league", completely unprepared, but expected to play anyway. Or naked. Here is the most sincere facepalm moment: http://youtu.be/CJXnYMl_SuA?t=2m42s
  2. I probably should not have called it bizarre, as one can't argue with the results. Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk
  3. Well remember they use that bizarre PCL805/18GV8 tube, which, IIRC, is some sort of television tube, which is at an unusual part-way point between power tubes and preamp tubes. Could that have anything to do with it?
  4. The more I think about it...white? Really? [/arrested development voice] Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk
  5. How is it any uglier than, for example, the E.A.R. HP-4? That said, I have to admit, white wouldn't be my first choice for color of any audio component.
  6. No. What is it with all of these superlatives and whatnot lately? I'm pretty sure the all-gilt Singlepower was the ugliest.
  7. Incorrect.
  8. I have yet to watch a Tiny Desk Concert I did not like.
  9. My favourite YouTube guitarist, Sarah Longfield aka MissSmiles4U, dressed as Harley Quinn last night. Nailed it.
  10. Oh me oh my! It's a preamp now?!?!? Want.
  11. I have to admit, I'm going on memory also, which is long enough ago that it may be failing me as well. Also, maybe because the DT880 didn't exist at the time, compared to the DT770 it was bright and not bass heavy. I do agree that I found the DT880 (once it came out) straightforward compared to the bass-heavy DT770 and the (to me) bright DT990. I guess I think of it like this: DT770 \ DT880 - DT990 / (Bit of an exaggeration, but it's the best I can do with ASCII. Imagine me standing in front of you with my hand in the air with a slight slant representing bass-heaviness for the DT770, etc. No, no, I'm not right in front of you, crowding your personal space, I'm standing next to you holding it out in front of both of us.) Also, I have an old (pre-DT880) DT990, so maybe they were different. I did have an HD600 at the time, and remember it having more bass than the DT990, but I don't remember what I had at the time.
  12. Neko Case Halloween Tiny Desk Concert -- her Halloween costume has nipples! Sho sheckshy.
  13. What? Not, they're slanted the other way -- bright. The DT770 are the basshead headphones.
  14. I didn't find them bright at all. Maybe that's why they don't scale as well -- they don't need "crazy good" amplification to get those upper frequencies.
  15. The DT880 isolates more than the HD600, which doesn't isolate at all. The DT880 isolates a little bit more than 'nothing'. Certainly not enough for my environment.
  16. There's a whole series of these, if you click on the associated videos.
  17. As long as you aren't basing "better" on "isolates from external noises", because it is definitely not better based on that criteria. I do find the sound signatures similar, though, but the HD600 scales better. Just for the record, the DT990 was never recommended. I was recommending the DT880, which is a completely different animal.
  18. O RLY? Desktop, stands, or what?
  19. Except they're bass-limited compared to headphones, too.
  20. No, IIRC, the DT990 had a particularly flimsy band. The DT880 is better than that. EDIT: I thought Jacob liked them, too.
  21. Seriously. I've always had one of those ridiculously good-looking dental hygenists with every dentist I've gone to, and most of them were not shy.
  22. Given that you're coming from HD580's, and you were happy with them, I would recommend sticking with that line/sound signature -- the HD600's. They're really some of the most comfortable headphones out there, and properly amped, they really shine. That said, I have absolutely no use for such an open phone. I like DT880. I use VTG's for office use, because I need really closed. I should probably consider going back to the DT770.
