  1. Finished Steel Remains -- greatly enjoyed the resolution. The sex scene(s?), not so much. Started Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire -- yeah, I'm smitten. My favorite recent-discovery author. Has a dark streak, great sense of humor, and a nice mind's eye for fantastical things. Some of the things that happen can be a little too deus ex machina (or rather, dei ex machina), but you know, who cares? That's my superpower: the ability to shrug during fiction. But do you know what she does best? Love. Love of brother, love of sister, love of comrade, love of commander, love of subordinate*...all of its forms, she does well. Even dysfunctional love. Even unrecognized love (e.g. love of the main subject, from the main subject's point of view, without the main subject even realizing it). I think that's what I like best about her. Really going to has a sad when I finish this one, because I will have read everything she's written until the next one comes out. * Try not to read that in Ronald Reagan voice.
  2. Once a Thief (1991 version w/Chow Yun-Fat)
  3. Or running your own cloud? I, actually, am, albeit at work. So I am seriously considering hex core for my next machine, so I can do similarly at home.
  4. Congrats, keep up the good work!
  5. Yeah, 2 or 3 years old should be alright. You may want to double-check, that's just my off-hand guess. Me, I'd go with the rebuild option, bullet two. That is, if I were you, I.E. not lazy.
  6. Alright, I'll do that. I did know to let it breathe...but I didn't know for how long, so I appreciate the info. I only let it breathe for not quite an hour.
  7. 2008 Ojai Syrah -- my first syrah, so I withhold judgment. I do like that back-of-the-throat burn.
  8. FTFY. And answeed your question: resounding yes. Still need to drink beer, though.
  9. That works, I like Ikea.
  10. Get rid of Windows, or get rid of the Emu? Yeah, I know, I'm not helping. Me: broke two bottles of wine, cleaned them up. No, not any of the syrahs, and fortunately, not any of the more expensive malbecs, I don't think. Still pisses me off. Good thing we don't care about that floor (it's asbestos -- it needed to have been replaced decades ago anyway). One was broken in the process of cleaning up the other, because I had bottles everywhere, and was trying not to step on them or in the puddle from the first one. @self. I need a wine rack. Anyone have any suggestions on the cheapest value winerack? I'm thinking the assemble-it-yourself one they sell at Total Wine, like this one:
  11. QFA. Quoated fr teh awsum.
  12. Oh wow, congrats on surviving so far!
  13. Yeah, well, I grew up in the 70's. inasmuch as I did grow up.
  14. I'm sure you can convert them: link.
  15. Me: Where are you getting all of these? Are you going for best price, or are you just happy to have them at all?
  16. This guy?
  17. You know, sometimes "whorey" is just what the doctor ordered.
  18. More Norton Bodega malbeca non-reserva -- you know, now that I know what to expect, I'm liking it more.
  19. When I went in the Apple store, they had a faster processor option in the smallest MBP than in either of the other two sizes. When does the Air come out? I think I'd be happy with the smallest MBP, but if you can't wait the 6 months, then I'd make a decision based on current knowledge. (I'd of course recommend you check out macrumours.)
  20. No, I thought it was just me. Very pagan-looking. I approve.
  21. No doubt...still had to try it to know for sure -- the difference in price was only a couple dolla. Sometimes "not as good" is still "acceptable". And this certainly is drinkable -- I'll finish the bottle. It's fruitier, so someone who likes fruitier may prefer it. It...just...me personally I won't get any more. On deck: the Privada.
  22. What she said. And Shelly -- I like that one a lot, too.
  23. A real corkscrew (rabbit-ears style from Screwpull). Got tired of fighting with the bottles.
  24. Super-geeky DIYers hold their soldering iron like a light saber and make whoosh-whoosh noises.
