  1. 911: I was at work. I thought my co-worker was joking when he came in and said someone just flew a plane into one of the Twin Towers. I smiled* at him, waiting for the punchline. The expression on his face told me there was not going to be a punchline. I tried to find info on the web, but the intarwebz were completely flooded. On my way to work, I took one of my usual routes which takes me through the Pentagon parking lot (27 -> parking lot -> 110, for those familiar with the area). If I had been maybe an hour later, I probably would have witnessed the plane coming in, as there's a small section of 395 where you're facing directly at the Pentagon while driving North. I'm kind of glad I didn't. Lunch was kind of surreal, we didn't realize everyone else had gone home. Tysons Corner was a ghost town. *To this day, I still feel bad about this.
  2. Me: Nice, one of the few benefits for living overseas. And: just plain noice.
  3. Buh? (wanders off to look up Shpongletron)
  4. Comments? Always looking for good interpretations.
  5. That's the single fastest book I ever read (in a day). Me: Finished The Summoning, started The Awakening
  6. Finishing this (one glass) -- still outstanding.
  7. Also not an iPad owner -- you should be able to just "beam" the document to the printer. Bring up the document, then do a file => and see if there is something like "beam" under "save as" "print to" or "send to" or something like that?
  8. Hurray! Ding dong that son of a bitch is dead. Sure, they will instantly replace him, but do you know what? I'm still going to revel in the good feelings for a bit. That much of discontinuity in operations, reduce their confidence a tad, their leadership loses some of its charisma...all good. I wouldn't worry about his secrets, he kept a lot of them close to his chest -- they probably would have to change plans anyway, in a lot of cases.
  9. That's a stretch. :rimshot:
  10. Alamos Seleccion malbec -- outstanding. On par with the Norton Reserva. I honestly don't know which I like better.
  11. Please tell me you poured those all in at once, two bottles in each hand, like a bartender. ORLY? (makes a sour face) Kidding, it actually sounds good.
  12. Scarcity of Miracles, the track they have on blip.tv from here. Wow. That's pretty, almost AOR, the only thing that saves it from crossing over into yacht rock territory is ...alright, I don't know. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's the bed of "thinking man's music" -- mostly Tony Levin and Jakszyk, I think -- Fripp doesn't do much more than some ornamentation (although behind the scenes I'm pretty sure he's a lot more influential). Also puts me in mind of Sunday All Over The World, for some reason, without the scat-/jazz-based vocals. But, you know, it's Fripp, Gavin, Levin, et al, plus it'll be available on DVD-A, so I'll be getting it.
  13. Polynesian pizza, dusty style -- take off the shrimp, leave the pineapple and bacon, put on barbecue chicken and roasted garlic. The garlic was a bit of an experiment, I think I'll ask them to go easy next time.
  14. That's a terrible waste of beer!
  15. There is no 'you' in wait. Waiting is for other people.
  16. Well, I've sent him two messages, and he kind of sucks at responding, so I'm thinking I'll get the two or three disks I want (and can't find elsewhere) and be done with it, taking a chance that he'll charge me individual shipping on all the items.
  17. Home-Theater-Dave has one of those Capelands -- there's something totally lust-worthy about that raw carbon fiber.
  18. (a) Pfff -- I doubt it's black enough. ( ... See (a).
  19. Shipping crates? Just curious why shipping crates over ...say, boxes or plastic tubs? Since I have the same problem, albeit worse.
  20. A couple iPod protective skins, including this one:
  21. We'll see when it rains. It really doesn't handle all that differently on dry pavement. Didn't check the tread, but I did check and make sure they changed the correct tires. They did. I now have four of the same Kumho Solus kh16 tires. EDIT: I'll see what I can do about pics of the Surrounder this weekend.
  22. Me? Calypso "Teamonade" mangerine tea and lemonade Wait, so: Teamonade |........\ Lemonade Mangerine Tea ..........|............\ ..........Mangerine.....Black Tea ..........|.........\ ..........Tangerine..Mandarin Orange ...really? You couldn't think of any more ingredients to mix together? To its due -- it is fairly complex.
  23. Samples from the Linn website from Kuniko plays Reich, including an arrangement for percussions of "Electric Counterpoint", which I am well familiar with (the Pat Metheny version). It's wonderful. I'm going to have to get this.
  24. Yeah, I think I'm going to just keep reminding myself that's the best part, rather than let it be something that bothers me. Sometimes I just want to whine, though. That was yesterday, today is different -- no whining today. PS Got my new tires today. Huzzah. EDIT: I got the Surrounder today. OMG. It's enormous.
