  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. Why is it a problem? DSP just means that they're doing something with the signal -- which I don't think they deny. I mean, they kind of have to, otherwise it's the software equivalent of a shakti stone. Does that make sense?
  3. Yes, pretty much. There are topics that do nothing but spin out of control -- you will find no admin under the sun who will tolerate "juice vs. squeeze" issues. If it's easier to ban you than deal with moderating every single discussion that you participate in, then you will be banned. That was true over at head-fi, too, when I was there.
  4. The problem is that sound sources that go to the sound card are multiple. That's the reason kmixer was even born, and every operating system has their own approach to that particular resource contention problem, frought with its own compromises. Linux has two, I think: Jack and Alsa? Not sure, I only just started researching it myself. PS I am neither a linux guy, nor a mac guy, nor a windows guy. But I've made all the mistakes -- over-generalizations though they all are -- mentioned above. Dude, cut the trash-talk, you're gonna get banned.
  5. Dusty like!
  6. So there was a little bit of talk about Bell & Ross watches which none of us can afford, I thought I'd mention that some of Invicta's Russian Diver series seriously look good in that style: In some of the other cases, the colors are inverted (black on light), and they also have round versions.
  7. There's a magazine? It's only a bad idea, because my memory of Jude's ability to actually finish (and post) reviews...well, sucked, not to mince words. Has he gotten better about them?
  8. We already agreed to send this guy (Warning: some things cannot be unseen) through first. No, it's not the mermen one.
  9. Using just a compass and a straight-edge? The man knows his Stax.
  10. Bee line. And by "bee line", I mean the kind of line a bee makes, with lots of curlicues and loops and digressions and ... it ends up looking like a Family Circus cartoon, one of the ones where there's a dotted line, and it starts in one place and ends in another, but takes up all the available space in which a day's worth of adventures can be traced back.
  11. You don't read slow forum, do you?
  12. Fuses? You mean, as in, instead of breakers?
  13. Just wanted to confirm this -- they left me a voice mail (when I gave them my PO Box to ship to), and introduced themselves as "OH-poe digital". So there...definitive answer.
  14. In that case, I stand corrected. Why is it such a big deal then? It seems if anyone is doing >24/96 (I.E. 24/192), they have to write a proprietary driver for it. Is it just because it's not built into the operating system/default drivers?
  15. That's weird -- the P3 links to a power chord. What about the Emotiva? Also, the Musical Fidelity I was thinking of was the X-Pre v3 -- not that far off from the X-Can v8p, really.
  16. Mmmmm.... While there are a couple of proprietary USB 2.0 interfaces that do 192, but 384 has to be USB 3.0.
  17. Quite probably, yes. Oh hei, let me FTFY. No, seriously, sorry, I shouldn't be taking it out on my friends, I do appreciate your input. I'm going to get a neural impulse actuator. Here's to hoping I don't accidentally drag'n'drop a virtual piano onto my virtual brain.
  18. Try it now (the quoted one, I'll go fix the other one in a second).
  19. On the contrary -- here's an analogy. (One with which I personally relate.) I'm a keyboardist (musician). I've tried taking up the guitar, and I find it extremely difficult. Not just because I'm a beginner, but because I'm used to it (making music) being easy for me, so I find the fact that it's hard for me to make music (on the guitar) particularly frustrating. I do not think that the whole concept sucks, I realize I just need to perservere until it's easy enough to accomplish the things I want to accomplish with it, and I greatly admire people who can make music on the guitar better than I can. Similarly with touchpads (and mice for that matter) -- I don't think that you're retarded because you can work efficiently with both a mouse and a keyboard, or a trackpad and a keyboard, I just don't see the point in me having to do that, since I don't have to, for anything I need to accomplish. On the contrary, I think I'm the retarded one because I just can't seem to get it, but I don't see the point in continuing trying to teach the pig to sing, as it were. It just frustrates the farmer, and makes an awful racket, which usually ends in bacon.
  20. I'm having trouble imagining a scenario in which you're typing at the same time that you're mousing.
  21. Contrary to the "predisposed" theory, I didn't start out hating them. It wasn't until work gave me a laptop for an extended period that I learned to hate them (prior to that I was only mildly irritated by them, and perfectly willing to just Suckitup
  22. link Read the paragraph starting at "A different kind of distortion". To synopsize -- it's not really adding controlled amounts of jitter, but a reference level of jitter, so that you can hear how much your source is introducing (for example, on the clean part of the track). I think.
  23. What? Which ones? Oh, and I love these two pieces -- such a sublime confluence of modern minimalism and retro compositional elements: Amazon.com: pitch: a' = 440 Hz: Play It: MP3 Downloads Amazon.com: pitch: a' = 443 Hz: Play It: MP3 Downloads
  24. ...or just start humming to yourself.
