  1. Ah, but there's the rub. No-one can build a cheaper one than this Drobo -- a free one.
  2. No, I don't mean concerts, I actually do mean recording stuff "in the field" -- I heard a really cool sound last night, and I didn't think of my iPhone (duh!), but even if I did, I want to get serious about this. I want to have access to a quality portable digital recorder at all times (I.E. if not actually with me, then with me as much as my iPod is). So, I realize this is not the best place to ask, so the question is mostly -- where should I go to ask this? Harmony Central? Any place else? I can't remember the music makers and producers forum that I used to frequent -- gear-freaks or something like that? Here are my choices so far, that I can figure: Tascam DR-1 or DR-07 Alesis ProTrack (requires iPod) Zoom H4 Edirol R-09 Olympus LS-10 Any others I should be looking at? Would like Hi-Res (either DSD or high bit-rate PCM).
  3. Going at a rate of about 5 comments/second, it's up to 13,050+ at last look.
  4. You could do worse.
  5. Never?
  6. Wait...what?
  7. Whut? I thought it was analog.
  8. So I'm seeing this, and I'm thinking to myself -- you know, I've been meaning to (ahem) laserdrop my laserdisks. Talk me down? Talk me up (I.E. should I go all the way to 1080p)? Do whut now? This coming from someone who has immediately fallen in love with blu-ray -- I may not know shit about this stuff, but I know what I like.
  9. Pretty nice friggin' phones for a baby!
  10. Holy shit, episode 6.
  11. Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Snow (Hey Yo)" -- aka the end titles to Deathnote: The Last Name -- actually, I think I'm listening to a medley of that track and another track, because the latter half sounds just like what you'd expect of movie end titles music, and nothing like anything RHCP have ever done. I need to get the soundtrack to this, because I really like this combination.
  12. I do believe he was being snarky. Don't worry, Fungi, I got it.
  13. I threw up a little.
  14. Is that your serial number? (jots it down)
  15. Aren't groove tubes just rebranded something else?
  16. ADAT Lightpipe -- it is certainly capable of transferring quite a bit (8 channels of 24/48 ). But as has been mentioned, the spec itself does not support it.
  17. It looks like it says, "rar on pants" to me.
  18. I like the feet on the balancing act, and the rivets on the Moth s2a3.[/snarky]
  19. I'm not the Monkey, but having heard both under similar circumstances (at a meet, being driven by a BHSE), I'd have to say -- yes, exactly. Very good analogy.
  20. Actually, your 37" monitor isn't that much more overwhelming than my 30" one.
  21. I just use a drop-in infuser in a mug, especially when I'm trying a variety of different teas -- I don't want more than one cup in those cases. I use the SwissGold one, the 200, not the 300. And an electric kettle to boil the water. And if more than one cup, then a larger infuser and a teapot. I tried the ingenuiTea from Adagio Teas (which is a similar item to the above), but I didn't like the way the lid wouldn't come off to throw it in the dishwasher (supposedly it does, but I couldn't figure it out without worrying about breaking it).
  22. In glorious Russia, Lada disses itself.
  23. I hope they're built better than their cars.
  24. That and it also depends on the kind of music. Unexpect and Opeth and Lacuna Coil and etc. are much louder than Camille (who was perfect without earplugs) and even Al Di Meola.
