I just bought those ugly shoes I posted elsewhere (one of the violently purple, and two of the "techy" black). Here's to hoping they fit, as they're out of my first choice of sizes. How is it you don't have these already? I thought you were a serious Daft Punk fanboy. Oh, and * FOTM * FOTM * FOTM * FOTM...

Woke up; fell out of bed; dragged a comb across my head... That's about it so far.

Woah! What's up with the quick thread locks lately?

Oh, but I think he does. He knows he has the freedom to express his opinion here, no matter how unpopular the opinion is. Like badge, baby, like badge. -
Yeah, it was just a suggestion. I, personally, do not have room for multiple tables, so that's what I'd do, but if you have the room (and finances, presumably) to do it right, by all means, do it right.

I still am. I just like saying, "it's an expression". -
Last night he was drunk and up late, so he may just be catching up from having been late to work or busy or something. Here's to hoping.

Just to be clear -- we don't usually mind a small amount of entropy, it's when it builds up to critical mass and it starts evolving into assmillinery that the mods start locking threads. Me, I have a background in physics, so I know that entropy only ever increases, so I just sit back and wait for the next big bang. -
I believe Clearaudio has a turntable on which multiple arms can be mounted.

Earthquake in southern Iceland/Spritzer: Are you safe?
Dusty Chalk replied to guzziguy's topic in Off Topic
6.1?!?!? Geebuz. I hope all is well with our Icelandic brethren. -
But I didn't get to do nothin'. Oh, well, I will abuse my administrator privileges: We did, it was called the baby boom. Leaving it locked...leaving it locked...

LOL @ Flying sharks then tanks then kittehs then dogs.

No, I haven't, but there's an entire school of thought of people who set up mono systems on both sh.tv and audio asylum. Dew et.

Yet another universal player thread
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in Home Source Components
I'm sure you know this already, but just in case -- you know that if you're playing the SACD layer, it'll shut off the digital out, right? You need to be playing the CD/redbook layer. I'm sure you're already doing this, but it's the only thing I can think of. Have you hooked it up to a display and gone through the configuration? I'm not that familiar with the Oppo's, yet -- is it fairly easy to toggle back and forth between the two (or three) layers, just via the remote? Actually, I'm basing my opinion on my SACDMods.com-modded Denon player, with which I'm quite happy. But yeah, based on others' experiences, I wouldn't rule out Reference Audio Mods or ModWright or maybe APL (getting to be out of my price range with that one). And thanks for the info on the transport, I'll search the archives. -
Yet another universal player thread

I thought I'd bump this thread: - if anyone had some new thoughts on the subject; - that Oppo 983 has been getting some good press, it's tops on my list right now for the home HT speaker system (entry-level/mid-fi), should it not be? Talk me out of it. - Am seriously considering a modded Denon 3930 for my home high-fi rig (both speakers and headphones) (the 3910 is my work high-fi rig). Should it not be? Talk me out of it. Ayre? Linn? - I still wouldn't mind a changer: Marantz VC6001? Yamaha DVD-C750? -C950? Integra DPS-10.5? -8.5? Others? - Is my Sony SCD-CE775 -- whose drawer doesn't go in and out very well -- worth repairing? Or is it one of those whose transport is of the proprietary variety that once it fails, won't be able to be fixed no mo'? -
I think a run-in with ScarJo's bodacious tata's would be interesting, but that's not going to happen.

That sounds interesting I wonder if you have to Consider meter?

I concur. Hey, what about: ...getting a pair of "satellite speaker stands", and putting them on the floor behind the desk, so that the speakers are still roughly where they are? ...getting a pair of satellite speaker stands and putting them on the floor in front of the desk, backwards, so that they arc slightly back towards the desired speaker position? Sounds like they'd get in the way of the chair, though. ...get someone like Steve to make you a custom something? Seems like a single pillar version of something like triangular-base/pillar/square-speaker-platform might work. ...a single block of 4x4. If you don't want to worry about parallel surfaces, plan on putting panels of something on either side of the main block, and jimmy it with toothpicks or popsicle sticks or something. ...instead of speaker stands, use something like an angled settee to aim the tweeters up at your ears -- the plane of listening (plane described by your two ears and the two tweeters) doesn't necessarily need to be parallel to the ground. Something like this (only angled up more): ...although with the size of your speakers, you should be able to angle it up adequately.

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm in...for whenever, don't have any particular plans this far in advance, but "the weekend" would, of course, be preferable. Arundel Mills is fine -- some good shopping within walking distance. PS What "big minimeet"? The one in Leesburg that failed? I'm not sure I trust him (SK138) to run a meet. "Oops, I accidentally went to Manila..." (without telling anyone). EDIT: this one?

That's exactly a month away. Nope, won't be able to make it.

Is Head Case the new Twitter? Are Head Cases Twits?
Dusty Chalk replied to Grahame's topic in Off Topic
Correct. -
Have you ever heard single driver speakers? Make sure you hear them first (or at least, in your head, when you buy them, buy them to try them, not to marry them). Their sound is not for everyone. (I personally like them at the levels I usually listen, but every once in a while, I like to crank it, and that's when they fail.)
