I wonder if there's enough space in the cups for something like that. But yeah, due to the shape and round nature of the cups, the comb-filter effects shouldn't be too bad. :o:o You shouldn't have sold the Alpha Pro Excellent drivers to me, then, if you wanted to build an SR-X Mk3 Pro.
-
I like a hint of thickness in the midrange, due to my AKG headphone origins. And sweet, I hope you get the 404 LE. As to the Alpha Pro Excellent, 17k Yen is only $170... I will hopefully soon have the means to make an almost Alpha Pro Excellent with your drivers. I hope they sound good, or I might sell them to start up my 4070 fund.

I've been thinking. Wouldn't closed-back headphones like the 4070 act more like bipoles, with some of the backwave reflecting back off the cups into the ears, possibly providing a more natural sound? Of course most of it is damped due to the damping material Stax put in as well as the properties of the wood. And due to its closed nature, it has much less air to move around so is somewhat easy to drive and picks apart a lot of detail in the music. Oh, and I'm still waiting on some 404 LE impressions.

I just flew to and back from California and in the entirety of both flights was given a single meal. A turkey sandwich I finished in two bites which may or may not have contained rat feces, a bag of chips, and a fun size bag of M&Ms. I did get a lot of "free" drinks, though.

Well he is trying to flip stuff for as much as he can... He's also got that L3000 that he's had for sale for awhile. And the broken Coriolan. And a Chord DAC 64 MkII. And he sold that 307A for cheap, IIRC. Anyone remember the Qualia fiasco?

Grado SR601. It even has a button that says SR60 right on it. Clearly these people know their headphones.

Beyer is full of shit. Pretty much all of their high end headphones list a frequency response spec of 5-35kHz, including DT770, DT880, DT990, DT860, DT440 is 10-35kHz, DT660 is 5-32kHz. Which means nothing since they also don't mention the tolerances. People who have heard the DT770/80 know the mid-bass is boosted like 6-10dB; it's all I hear on it. And the frequency response graph of the a version of the DT48 shows it has no treble, and apparently it has no bass either. Shit phones.

Am I just becoming a tired, cranky old git or something? I try to understand where the guy's coming from and he starts spouting some shit about how they're the greatest headphones ever. I call him out on it (in a fairly nice way) and he puts me on his ignore list. I wonder if he'll try to beat me up with one of his DT48s if I ever meet him in person. I lurv bass as well. I wonder how the ring radiator will play out bass. Everyone's seen the impedance curve plot and how it skyrockets at around 100Hz but I don't think anyone who has heard it has mentioned anything about a bass deficiency or non-linearity.

Nothing wrong with it but I don't quite swing that way. Rockers/metalheads do tend to stay fit compared to classical music listeners, I suppose. Must be all the head-banging and air guitaring/drumming.
-
I'm a real youngster and I wholeheartedly admit to blasting classical music fairly often. No one in the audience wiggles their hips and butts during classical concerts. Nor do I want them to; most of them are over the age of 50 or so.
-
Actually, you can't really hear very much detail in real life, in concerts and things, but being able to hear every little sound that is recorded on the mics in the studio certainly paints a better illusion of the acoustic environment. And for a lot of music, bass does go "wham wham wham" because that's what the young people think is cool, along with mind-boggling sound pressure levels.

Maybe it'll soon be time for SR-007 MkII LE. I don't know how they could make it more black, though. WilCox, I eagerly await your impressions.
-
KBI, I was honestly trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but both you and Uncle Erik are coming up with these posts bordering on trolling and then you expect me to believe you when you say their detail and transparency are unrivaled, when the only high-end headphone you've ever heard is the K1000. Now you just come off as a fanboy, especially now that I've read other peoples' opinions on it who don't think they were hand-crafted by Jesus in the 40s. Everyone else, thanks for the laughs, as usual. And Sennheiser, pull your heads out of your collective asses! What's John Willett saying about this mess? And atothex, you're right, that doesn't make any sense. The DT48 probably doesn't have anything except mids since it doesn't even need anything else for its intended purpose, and that's how it's coming off as detailed.

Dead sexy. They better not sell out of them until I have enough money to buy one. Unless Birgir finds they sound like crap, aka same as stock SR-404.
-
I'm definitely also in favor of minimal damping. Although, this T20v2 is really giving me the finger about that. I already have 3 layers of felt in there and it's not enough.
-
I'm thinking about flipping my drivers every now and then on my Lambdas, since I can only use one side at a time. It's like rotating tires, ya know.
-
Well, there is that route.

Hey Dreadhead, my mom also works for CSC in DC.

I'm pretty sure you can't adjust the bias on the SRM-1. The O2 just uses standard pro bias, 580V. Also, it's reasonably listenable but just keep in mind you're amping a 1500 dollar TOTL headphone with a 300 dollar amp from the early 80s.
-
I laughed pretty hard when I saw this. That said, I'd never listen to whatever is on there. Also, I don't listen to metal, but I get somewhat close with stuff like Tool and Porcupine Tree. And Primus.
-
Cool, sounds like it's really coming along. Not making any references to a certain RSA amp, are you? And shouldn't this be better?

Mahler 2, then Mahler 5. Should I finish up with some Mahler 9? I'm going to be here forever, and it's already 4am. Nah, I think I should go practice instead.
