  3. Brain fart , the voltage rating being higher is fine, it is just the current that causes it to blow. If 4A fast blow is working now, 8A fast blow should be fine as well and possibly a bit safer but you can't go wrong with using the same as what was in there before (unless it's a Singlepower). Assuming the places where it's burnt are the leads to the power caps, it looks like they short circuited when you put the top back on and thus created arcy sparky. It ought to be fine especially if you say the thing still works but check for any other burn marks throughout the amp and make sure the capacitors aren't bulging or anything. And as a rule of thumb, try to minimize messing around with a circuit while it's on, it can be quite dangerous especially for power applications like an amp. I do it somewhat often but that doesn't mean it's safe, it just means I'm an idiot. Edit: Also remember that caps store charge, especially ones that don't have some sort of bleeder resistor, so even when the amp is off you do not want to short the leads of a capacitor or more arcy sparky may happen.
  4. I'm surprised the turn on current surge didn't blow the 4A fast blow if the original was a 8A slow blow. Using a lower rated fuse just means the fuse will blow faster/more often, using a too high rated fuse means the fuse won't do its job breaking the circuit before the electronics start blowing up and shit. So I think it should be alright for now but you should find a similarly spec'd fuse asap in case the circuit really doesn't like seeing over 32V, and is seeing over 32V.

  6. Happy birthday!
  7. Built this simple circuit to help out a group in need today: Yes, yes I am using the Placid BP to bias the opamps. However I'm trying to resolve what I'm sure is a bone-headed mistake of mine. I have the inputs at close enough to 0V, gain ~1, and thus the output close enough to 0 (0.001V) but somehow the half wave rectifier (edit: right off the first opamp's output) is measuring 7.3V (before it discharges into the multimeter). What am I doing wrong? The second opamp is a ghetto opamp comparator btw.
  8. OMG it's out?!?!
  9. Listening to In Rainbows now for comparison. On mah Acoustats because I was a little too late in buying those farkin' Quads. I moved the speakers out another foot from the wall, to around 3.5 feet, and they sound much better. I bet they would sound glorious with the socks off (which is something some say about the Quads as well, the socks are just not acoustically transparent).
  10. Makes sense. Gonna shut up and let it grow on me for a week now.
  11. I don't like prematurely judging an album which is why I'm giving it a week, but I'm not seeing what people are talking about with saying it is experimental. Seems like the least experimental album they have made, in fact the subdued nature is almost boring when compared with their previous complex rhythmic-wall-of-sound-while-still-being-atmospheric type electronic jiving.

  13. Cool, power tools are awesome. I need some to do casework for amps but I guess I need a handheld drill or something? Too poor for a drill press. Didn't buy but just got a bag of parts that includes some 800V 3A diodes. LOL they are large. Too bad they are not fast/soft recovery. Also a bunch of 741s and some zeners.
  14. I really liked In Rainbows, something about the songs and the album as a whole seemed more coherent and intimate than the previous. Listening to King of Limbs now, will decide how I like it in a week.
  15. Happy birthday Colleen!
  16. Anyone hear the SRH940s? Edit: Nvm they're not out yet.
  17. 2 eggs sunny side up, egg and ham wheat bread sandwich, some slices of salami, two chicken drumsticks, a bunch of broccoli, pasta.
  18. Happy birthday Steve!
