  1. It wasn't too bad. Got an offer I couldn't didn't want to refuse on the P3ESRs, but passed on the rest. The LFD Zero is a great match with the Harbeths but has a few issues, chief of which is the high gain. In a medium-sized room I never went past nine on the pot. Nearfield, you'd have about five degrees of play between silent and damn loud. So, yeah, now I have a groovy box with a Union Jack on it to stare at for a while until something nice pops up on Audiogon. PS: Tom, the big $6K LFD integrated + the Monitor 40s is something to hear.
  2. Take a wild guess.
  3. At Fidelis. Hi Nate! Also, LFD > Luxman in this particular case.
  4. Right now listening to Toe on Harbeth P3ESRs off of a Luxman 505u fed by a PerfectWave DAC. Combo does not suck.
  5. This has been SOP for Microsoft for a very long time. Someone else starts doing something innovative around their patch and they immediately announce some piece of vaporware that's going to take it on head to head. It used to work well when they were the biggest and the baddest on the block -- the investors would either shit themselves and shut off the funding spigot for the luckless start-up. Or, they'd go crawling to Redmond asking to be bought out and shut down. Problem is, it doesn't work anymore because nobody is afraid of MS anymore. They are slow, reactive and out of touch. Apple's creaming the hardware space on one side of them and Google owns the Web space on the other. And both are slowly squeezing Microsoft's one pillar, the OS near-monopoly. Windows Mobile is on life support as Android and iPhone OS charge ahead. If (not if, when) those are extended onto tablet devices and if (this one's a little iffier) tablet devices truly begin to supplant laptops as the primary mode of mobility computing, MS is up the proverbial shit creek. So, nowadays, this is pretty much just the equivalent of Ballmer jumping up and down and yelling: "We're still in it! We're still in it!"
  6. The Dead Weather -- Horehound Vinyl.
  7. Nate, looks like the word is there won't be a Verizon iPhone until summer at the earliest. Exclusive: Qualcomm to Power Apple iPhone | Technology | Financial Articles & Investing News | TheStreet.com
  8. Since this is the default Peachtree thread. Signal Path International - Era Speakers & Peachtree Audio - iDecco Pretty neat. A Decco with an integrated iPod dock that takes the digital output (a la Wadia iTransport) straight into its own DAC.
  9. In Canada, Post ridicules slow you, eh?
  10. Pix or ban. Also, next NE meet at your place!
  11. Overhang wasn't too bad, but zenith was way off. Today I used the Rega Baerwald arc protractor, since the OL geometry is identical, and then checked it with the Accutrack universal.
  12. One good thing about all the arse-ing about -- the sound from the analog rig is now by far the best its ever been. I'm amazed at just how much difference getting the table set up right and the cart dialed in better has made. I mean, yeah, I'd heard people say sweating the details was the key with turntables -- but always rather dismissed it as the gospel of tweak for tweak's sake. Once again, happy to admit error. Must play ... more records!
  13. I would do that. It looks like by far the best Verizon phone. One possible wrinkle, no lossless audio support except WAV. You're gonna need a big SD card.
  14. For the price, that better be a fuckin' OLED touch screen in the middle there.
  15. Not sure I buy that. Apple (read Jobso) is obsessed with ease of use. Look at his crusade against physical buttons. Unless it's thought controlled and you have to train your brain not to think about naughty stuff so it doesn't keep taking you to dodgy Web sites.
  16. Used a couple of the Vinyl Engine protractors to check my setup today and found that my cart has been pretty significantly misaligned. Don't think I've used it enough to do much damage, happily. And the vinyl setup sounds quite a bit better now that it's (more or less) correct. So I'm going to chalk it up to experience. Also have the Hi-Fi News test record on order now and am going to do more work on some of the other parameters when that arrives. Still slouching toward Bethlehem...
  17. Definitely cuts in quicker now, too, when you cue up the first track of an album. No more two second silence. Small annoyance, but still nice to see it fixed. I'd like to hear some word about Amarra Vinyl -- very keen to see that.
  18. Installing the new version now. "Improved Sound Quality" is a little nonspecific as a release note.
  19. Steely Dan -- Aja 30th Anniversary Vinyl.
  20. Turntable tweaking again. I am getting better at it.* (* i.e. nothing actually broke.)
  21. I have a similar program for the indoor rower and it's pretty cool. It's also seen pretty much no use in the last year or so.
  22. Oh snap! Congratulations?
  23. Boards Of Canada -- The Campfire Headphase
