  2. Ran a little errand to drop something off and pick something up. Running a Chatham 5998 and Tung Sol 6SN7GT. Sounds pretty darn good and, as you can see from the position of the volume pot, doesn't want for powah!
  3. The Human League -- The Very Best Of Funny story. My wife and I once did an epic, drunken karaoke duet of "Don't You Want Me" in a Key West bar in the middle of Bike Week. Large, bearded people threw bottles. It's a miracle we weren't both raped and killed. The performance practically demanded it.
  4. Those two are really a toss-up. The Denon has a new Anchor Bay video scaler (ABT1030) that is a somewhat unknown quantity at this point, but based on the performance of that chip's big brother, the ABT2010, (which is in your Oppo) it shouldn't give up much if anything in quality to the Faroudja solution in the Onkyo. One clear edge the Denon has is its room EQ capacity. It has Audyssey MultEQ, which has twice the filter resolution of the 2EQ included in the Onkyo. 2EQ also has no subwoofer correction capability. Either will do you fine, though.

  10. Plus, it would probably make more sense to promote the core Head-Fi brand to a completely new audience rather than the ancillary CanJam one. "Head-Fi at RMAF". Done.
  11. I'd agree with that.
  12. Yeah. Wanna know how wet it is in New England? Look at this poor little bugger I just found trying to shelter under an eave outside my office door.
  13. Quotation marks typically enclose direct quotes from a third party, in this case you. I believe this convention is occasionally observed even outside of H-C.
  14. Cursed the bloody weather! It rained 22 days out of 30 in June this year and is, of course, absolutely pissing down outside as I write this. Apparently, the blame lies with an unusually-persistent high pressure system camping in the region of Nova Scotia, which is pushing the Jet Stream far south of it's usual summer course. Can it be a coincidence that this anomaly developed right after a certain Australian DIYer moved to Halifax? I think not.
  15. SACD > CD. Who'da trunk it?
  16. Christ I hope there are no euphemisms involved here.
  17. Also good. Others involved agree.
  18. Soft Cell -- The Art Of Falling Apart The synth medley of Hendrix hits is worth the price of admission on its own.
  19. I think I liked him better as a jolly fat man, though I'm sure he's improved his hit rate on Grinder now.
  20. The 607 is the sweet spot in the Onkyo line, in my opinion. Gets you the much better MultEQ room correction. The new Denons look like a lot of receiver for the money, too. In the budget category, you'd have to work hard to beat the feature set of the AVR590. 21. Today was a good day.
  22. If you do go that particular route, PM me. I can probably get you a deal.
  23. And the great thing is, there can always be more categories.
  24. Actually, I just got the manual from Retrevo and he's right. WTF? Steve, if you can take that back, I would. You could do a lot better getting a higher-end, last-gen receiver for not much more money. That would let you pass everything over HDMI and get the full benefit from the lossless audio tracks on Blu-ray discs -- which that Yammy won't decode either.
