Maryland Ortho/Electrostatic Meet 11/01/09
Kabeer replied to mypasswordis's topic in Meet Impressions
Nice! Would have loved to have been there. The LCD-2 is looking mighty interesting now. Good to see that we have readily available orthos on the level of T50v1 (or better). -
Dammit, this is confusing news for bassheads like me!
-
HE-5, makes you get so horny that you give yourself cancer.... I can see them using that in their next advertising campaign .
-
You got scammed, send the seller here: http://www.head-case.org/forums/off-topic/7357-rape-tunnel.html It's not worth a great deal, something like between $15-50 depending on the day
-
Audeze has told me the LCD2 had a slightly larger and more efficient driver...... I didnt ask him about thin-ness though.
-
WOWs! this was sooner than I expected... I wasnt sure about the headband. But I like the way it still has that kind of retro Engineer design look it. The cups look good and the pads look like they are v.comfy (if they are anything like Denon pads then deffo. I wonder what the price is.....
-
Looks like a speaker driver. But Strathearn were part of the Rank Organisation. In turn these were all basically the old school Fostex drivers.
-
I suggest the Penis Pantomimes
-
lool, funny as ever steve.
-
Hah, a suprisingly less cruel reception (or maybe not so suprising). Welcome.
-
Haha at ortho wierdo's comment . I think this could be a good frame for the multiple driver experiments. Otherwise i dont picture it that grat for anything else due to the closed nature... Maybe if someone really wanted a closed Audeze.

Do you mean the itunes library? You can get itunes to arrange the library in artist/album heiarchy so the whole thing is organised.
-
Definately great, looks like it can just take a straight iTunes library now (alac, mp3 and aac) Thanks for the answer to my hdd question, looks like its time to save up some pennies!

Hi there, Are you able to test whether a 2.5" portable usb drive works with this unit? Im a little worried if the squeezebox can power the drive. Thanks
-
Ahh great, I think i was just under the assumption it was harder to drive a 2.5" drive than say a flash drive. Anyway great news!
-
Do you think it will be able to accept a usb bus powered 2.5" drive? If so I am in for one
-
Does anyone know if any of the already existing Squeezboxes (or similar products) can do this (work as a standalone system without a pc needing to be on at the same time). Thanks
-
No way! id say quite a lot of vintage orthos look darn cool
-
But you are known to like your trebles a little prominent . All of us have different tastes (and matching gear). So whats perfect for one, is maybe overkill for another.
-
Boilermakerfan might try out some lamda pads on them soon, similarish shape.
-
mwahahaa!! hold on wait, dammit that means iv let the pixies out of all my orthos :'(.
-
No one we know of has modded one, all owners have theirs stock. I think Wualta cant even open his any more if im not mistaken (stripped a screw?) You have to be careful with those screws. To save you time and finding a modder, id reccomend you try my earpad idea first. Btw dBel: the diaphragm isnt lighter than the rest, its the same as the T50v2 and T50v2 oem's, and even T30 I think. Its just the tensioning of the driver thats different. Iv had a pop at all of them bar the v1. And boilermakerfan: that NAD is a beast, I can help you out as I own one too. Looool, I only broke it once thank you! , and that was because I was a pioneer in figuring out how to open an unknown headphone . Will be interesting to see how the modifications improve it! or if you realise stock is best.

I disagree, it will have the opposite effect to what he wants. It will become less bright. My expectation, would be muddier and bassier. Or muddier , less birght and the deep bass becomes quieter too. I think you were thinking of a certain stat or something.... Possible solutions: Reflex dot/strip: will give you boosted highs, thats it. Add a layer of damping, for instance a layer or felt: Will inscrease the damping, reducing any leftover resonances, making transients faster, sucking up bass a bit, and trebles will become a bit more prominent. At the sacrifice of a bit of openness. But there are so many variables to felt or wool densities, its a balancing act. Im suprised you need more trebles, according to wualta they have v.good trebles, SR-X like. Id be glad to be the one to run a health check on it if you want hehe. If it was me id rather keep it stock than woodyfying, but then to people like steve and smeggy if you dont petrify something its like junk to them heh. EDIT: actually, i have another snazzier idea, but its something the other big cheeses dont really like doing. Id remove the earpads, and put something on with a larger inner diameter, maybe even circum pads with small holes. (i just sold my ross pads along with my T50 so cant give you that unfortunately)
