  1. Thank you very much for the quick reply!
  2. What type of potentiometer is being used the in the L-2 and DSHA-1 ? I didn't see them listed in the decription on the website. I'm hoping to get a chance to see and hear them in person - they look excellent in photos!
  3. Sorry to hear about your loss. I've lost a monitor to the battle of crappy connectors too. On a side note - the UE interface is defiantly better, but it is not a "locking" connection.
  4. JonL - Beautiful little lady you've got there. She is a Collie of some kind? What is the beverage in the most recent photo? Interesting colors in it. Iron_Dreamer - Awesome photo!
  5. Is Parts Connexion my only option for a stereo TKD pot in the United States?

I'd be interested in hearing more about the UE-Reference / ES-5 / JH-13. I've only had a chance to hear the JH-13 and JH-16 universals and thought both had a little too much bass around 50hz for the large amount of electronic music I listen to. The UM3X and no.34 customs have made me wary of dealing with Westone again, but I've never had bad service, so they aren't completely off the list yet.
  7. Because the crossovers are directly wired to each driver. Also - with a normal amplifier, you only have 2 channels of amplification - you need 6 for the 13 and 8 for the 16 if that is the correct number of drivers in those.
  8. I think what Sam is saying applies to most of us guys here @ Audiofiler....
  9. I think they are like laser cut photos layered under the faceplate, but I don't know... but I do agree about them being "a little rough around the edges" on certain ones.

The stock cable looks nice... is that a neutrik plug?
  11. Gimmiethecash - those are a very nice pair.. I almost want to do the blue eye blue on one side and a dark green on the other.
  12. What is the sonic signature of the 404LE like? Does it offer any more bass impact than the Koss?
  13. The JH-13 already has a slight boost at 50hz to make it "sound natural" due to the way our ears work. Impressions will be interesting though!
  14. Valentines day sale?? fingers crossed!
  15. Raffy - Glad you had a chance to hear them again... and with an amplifier! A few balanced armature monitors really do come alive with some juice behind them. I'm planning on trying the little Fiio E1 and seeing if it is worthwhile at all compared to a normal portable amplifier or direct out of ipod. Its function is exciting to me in that I can control tracks while my ipod never leaves my pocket. That is a good thing for my touch.. my classic is relatively easy to change tracks while it is in my pocket though.
  16. I use Westones "Oto-Ease" every once and a while when I'm not getting a consistent seal. It is basically a personal lubricant type of liquid and it helps the monitor move with your body better and also creates a little more seal. I agree 100% about the amp - they don't sound bad w/o a nice amplifier+source, but they sure as helk don't sound as good as they can.
  17. Has anyone owned the UE triple.fi.10 and the JH13 at the same time? I'm looking to upgrade from my Etymotic ER-4 / UE TF10 combo to something from JH Audio, but want to be sure that they fit the bill. My issue with the Etymotic is the lack of qualities that would make them sound like real life. They are like a wikipedia for sound. They tell you all about it, but don't actually give you the experience of the real thing. The TF10 on the other hand seems to try too hard at the experience thing. I feel that the range from about 45hz up to around 800hz - centered around 125hz are too pronounced. The main rhythm keeping kick of songs is in here and it seems like it breaking up and too forward, causing the mid range to get hidden a little bit. I do like the subsonic frequencies being a tad on the stronger side for some funky basslines. All around, it could use some help in the control department - an amplifier REALLY helps it come together, but it still has its minor flaws. I'm sure to most gadget freaks, but non-audiophiles, these things are great. Most likely what they were aiming for? I know that for the most part - the JH13 is a godsend, but a lot of the reviews I read are sort of mixed and/or compared with things that I'm not a fan of or disagree with their assessment of. If I remember correctly, Jerry was still apart of UE when the TF10 came about, but I don't know if he was a part of the development of those. I would say the TF10 has more going right for it than most other universals, but still not what I would call Hi-Fi. I'd take most of my full-size cans over them for sound quality reason alone. Is there any speculation on when a JH16 might be reviewed? I know that the "next greatest" thing is kinda stirring over at the other forum, and I know more is not always better. My thoughts are purely in regards to the transient speed of the low end at normal volume. I am very much against bass taking away the balance of the rest of the frequency range. I would take the bass texture, speed, amplitude and combine it with the impact of a well driven HD800. Denons do the sub sonic range in an interesting fashion, but get it all wrong in the grand scheme of things. I've never heard a L3000 or other cans well regarded for extension and impact. The HP-2 I heard defiantly had impact, but it's extension wasn't the best. I do like the way the HD800 images bass and can effortlessly float it inside the large head stage. I know an IEM won't touch the open nature of the 800 or 02 for that matter, but the imaging should be spot on with an ability to place things in their own space. It would be nice to hear from someone who has done the dance down in the universal zone and had a chance to compare them with their custom cousins at the same time. I know Larry/HPA has done a bit of that, but it is always nice to read something else that might click with your own ways of expressing what you hear. Sometimes you might hear the same thing, but can't verbalize it the same and/or it might be described differently. Cheers - over written simple question

Thank you for this! I've been looking for a set to start me off with! Just purchased a home - now need to get a cutting block and holder.
  19. Thanks HP Dreamer. I am defiantly on the fence about the whole thing. One side of me thinks that the Oppo will do me just fine, but the other side says "Hey, this is a pretty nice player all around and it isn't THAAAT expensive"
  20. Not sure if any of you have seen this, but this unit looks pretty darn nice! They have built a reference audio section in it as well. It has been reviewing really well on the AVS forum. PQ and SQ rated equally well. The price isn't too bad either compared to the Sony and Denon TOTL. Link Here
  21. Hey Boss!!!! Have a great day on your Birthday!
  22. I've been using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150. I find it on par with my old unit that it replaced, a Canon PowerShot S50
  23. Thank you - I think you are correct. I was on my other PC and couldn't see all the detail in the photo.
  24. what is the amp on the bottom right of this photo?
