I doubt my electricity bill or the smoke detector will like either of those things.

how do you get the pan that hot? My oven only goes to 500C. Does a stove top go beyond that? I honestly don't know so asking.

To those with searzalls....how to do you prevent cooking the entire steak? I feel like by the time I get even a meager sear like this, the inside of the steak starts to cook. I make one with my cast iron pan last night and the crust was crispier. what am I doing wrong? It looks brown but it certainly doesn't have the crisp outside of a sear done on a cast iron pan. I have set off my smoke detector twice already so not sure what the advantage is so far of the searzall...for steaks that is. Makes great eggs.

Ghetto sous vide. Couldn't keep the temperature steady so the chicken was a little overdone. Veggies were perfect.

At the time I had $5000 saved up. I wasn't doing anything with it. If I were to sell all the shares right now I would profit $131000. Is this return the norm? Absolutely not. Had I sold it in December before it took a nosedive I would have made $165000. It's not money I depended on. It was put aside to purchase a car but when I got into MIT, I just left it in the savings account and forgot about it. A fellow math grad student had made quite a bit of money in the past so upon his suggestion I purchased Netflix. Don't regret the decision one bit. My retirement account on the other hand is diversified up the wazoo but has also gotten me a 2% net profit over the last 7 years. Slow and steady I guess.

Which is fine and all but from Jan 27, the price only went up and peaked to a 30 month high on the 2nd and the 4th highest it had been in 3 months. Granted there is no telling what the price might do the following day (no one sees $100 dips coming), none of the models I worked on suggested buying shares in such a spot. If sandwich man wanted to get a position regardless, then it doesn't matter what the price was. I put my meager savings of ~$5000 on Netflix when it was trading near ~$22. It's taken a turn for the worse since early December but I have no plans on selling it anytime soon. I was actually going to sell it next year to pay for tuition and not having to take out loans but I think I'll let it sit in my portfolio and sell when Julie is about to start med school. Hopefully they don't go bankrupt before then...

Yeah I understood that when he said so explicitly.

One of my oldest friends, Alexandra. She recently picked up an olympus om5 with an olympus 45/1.8 lens. Took both photos with her gear. -
That's the part I am confused about. Usually people buy on downticks or when the trend line slope is negative...

Feb 2nd?

Searzall, torch and propane tank are here. As is a nice porterhouse which I typically shy away from since the cast iron pan was basically just boiling the meat (no good contact with the meat. Going to give it a try tonight.

Just finished this. I cried for 5 minutes. Perhaps longer. Even though I knew the ending, it was still so emotionally overwhelming. Fuck cancer.

Nope but if you feel that strongly about it, I'll grab it after my next set of exams. I just had 4 this past Monday so have a little more reading time. I deleted my netflix account recently. The little free time I get I think would be better spent taking pictures or reading. Take a look at this, Jacob. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/125006581X?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 I think you might enjoy it. If you want I can pop it in the mail for you. Julie wanted to read it but i don't see her finding time anytime soon. Send it back whenever you are done.

Oh you can rent clothes at tremblant too! I saw that the page where they had listed prices for ski rentals but didn't nothing the clothes as well. That makes it a lot easier. Thanks Marshall!

Figured the snow thread would be the best place to ask about this. I was talking to Julie's mum about sending her and the girls as a surprise to Montreal over spring break. It's towards the end of ski season and her mum lives next to one of the biggest ones there. Can Julie and the girls rent everything they need for a couple of days out or is there anything that would need to be bought before hand? Their wardrobes can furnish stuff that they can walk around in cold weather but nothing that they can do athletic maneuvers in. Skiing is not something they will be doing all that frequently so I want to avoid any big purchases unless absolutely necessary. So,what can they not rent? I am working on a budget so would like to know how much everything would be before I pull the trigger on things.

I did, for a while. Direct deposit ftw.

People still use checks? ?:/

Thanks guys. Not too many people apply for the research fellowships every year because the general thought process is that what they gain isn't worth a year of physician level salary. Getting two years of tuition forgiven seems to make it an even playing field in my opinion even though interest continues to accrue on my other loans but whatever. I was only going to do it if I got one of two doctors and luckily I got the one I wanted most. I am still quite happy to have been picked. A few months ago, I was in his office when he asked me to go take the patient history for a new patient. Antonio, John and perhaps others might get a kick out of this case. This old lady came in with her daughter and I went in and talked to her for a while. Neurological exam was negative. I came out and said that I didn't think there was anything wrong with her that I could think of and the daughter started laughing. Dr T goes in and talks to her about absolutely nothing. Weather. News. Nothing clinically relevant. Doesn't do a neurological exam. Then writes down something and looks at the file and starts smiling. I asked him how he came up with the correct diagnosis after talking to her about random crap. He responded, "she read the newspaper every day for 75 years and now she doesn't know anything about current affairs. At least not at the level of someone who reads the paper every day. Of course she has trouble reading the newspaper. She can't read anything anymore. You don't just break 75 year old habits because you feel like it." She had kept a diary for over 60 years and wrote in it every day. She continued to write in them and everyone could read what she had written but she had no comprehension of what she was reading anymore. A terribly sad story but confirmed my desire to work with him.
