nice mike. how you like it for a dac?
-
just submitted my dissertation for final approval to the advisory committee. hopefully none of the math is wrong >< nice view there manuel.

it is. but things havent picked up yet. saturdays are my only day off so i am going to try to spend 1-2 hours every saturday until i get the speakers done as the woodshop is a 5 minute walk from my office. its a simple enough build so shouldnt take more than 6 or 7 sessions.

i dont know if i am just a pansy but when i touch any part of the amp (the bell included) after its been on for ~1 hour (with music playing) i cant keep my fingers touching the metal for more than 3-4 seconds. anything potentially screwed up?
-
going to start building a pair of basszillas for a buddy of mine this weekend. was doing some background reading on it and thats where the dx4 popped in my head. the entire drive home from school i was getting pissed off for not being able to recall why i even thought of that driver in the first place. now that i know, i can go to sleep in peace
-
i meant the actual construction of the amp - soldering, wiring etc. what could i be doing better or different for that matter?
-
keep reading. paper states the dx55 being used in multiple places.
-
sure putting feastrex drivers in a box (where you can only see the front) is a sin by all measures.
-
any comments on how to improve the build would be much appreciated.

Actually some lowther driver. dx4 iirc but i might be wrong on the model number. certain it was a lowther.

	amazing work sir. truly beautiful.

steve, i actually found 2 mullard 12au7s with the square getter and marked as k61 b6h (supposedly the best ones) but one has some crazy hum and no sound in the left channel and the other has very marked channel imbalance in volume. nebby and i were getting super excited over it last night in chat. i was going to wait for the tube tester on monday but i just plugged them in to see how they were and was disappointed. the raytheon 12au7 seems to be ok.

im planning on listening to it with the sprague caps for this next week and then putting the stock ones back in to see what changes. however, the bass was virtually non existent with the original caps. at least to me. rather i was actually disappointed. put in the sprague caps - bass got nicer. changed the sylvania 6080wc to a rca 6080wc - bass got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay nicer. but along the way, the overall tonality got a little bloomy. changed the supplied 12au7 (dont even know what kind it is) to a raytheon 12au7 and midrange improved by a few notches. much more detailed. more liquidy. reminds me of my old extreme.

i wish i knew what all that meant.

i wish i had your kind of patience.

thanks for the tip nate. should we be looking in the amp area or the tweaks forum?
-
plugged in an rca 6080wc tube that i was given by the nice gentleman upstairs. the bass with the 650s is stupendous. downright silly amounts of bass. a little tightening up would help but waaaaaaaaaaaaaay nicer than the jan 6080wc that was supplied with the kit. i can feel the insides of my head rattling on "poem of chinese drums" by yim hok man. still looking for a bit of mid range sparkle. nice and smooth but would like it to be more liquid. perhaps even a little bright. (coming from someone who hates anything bright)

bleh. that picture makes me want to get a doggy hope you are having fun with her steve congratulations.

hell if i know, will send an email to bottlehead and see what they say unless someone here can say that they are substitutes

I dont know what luvdunhill just said but its a 2N2222A transistor...quad 2 or something or the other. need 2 of them thingys
-
unfortunately the leads are all gone. i will end up just buying 2 more (anyone have an extra pair lying around? will pay for parts and shipping obviously. shipping with digikey is more expensive than the parts themselves...). i am more scared of having done damage to the board as i am sure that will be a much more expensive replacement if required. here are some pics. upskirt ones later when i turn off the amp but as of right now the toones are playing so dont want to turn it off sounds mighty nice.

so i screwed up the 2 x 2N2222A transistors while trying to put together the speedball kit. instructions said to leave some gap between the board and the transistor. mine are touching the board. should i just get new ones or is it ok for them to touch the board? also, installed sprague 470uf 200v electrolytic caps for output caps. bass is nicer. but overall tone has gotten bloomier.
