  1. Interesting Jeff, I'm not sure I would have put up with that much hassle but thanks for blazing the trail. For me - I was still feeling like I wasn't getting proper extension even after raising my seat ~1/2"+ a month or so ago so I raised it another 1/4"+ yesterday before I took a 18 mile loop around East Kingston. From the minute I got on the bike it just felt more right. This leaves me utterly puzzled as to what the shop was thinking two years ago when they "fit" me on this. Late this fall or maybe early next spring I think I'm going to schedule a proper/real fitting and see what the results are.
  2. No pictures but last night I had what will probably be on of the top 10 meals in my lifetime. Maura and I (along with her brother and his wife) took her parents and their two best friends out to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. We picked Grill 23 in Boston which is historically rated as the top steakhouse in Boston and has made other lists like Maxim's top 10 and so on. We started with drinks and fried calamari, moved onto salads where I had the Baby Iceberg (stuffed with bacon and gorgonzola w/ ranch dressing) and for the main course I selected the Kobe cap steak (10oz) which was the best cow I've ever eaten. The table finished things off with caramel profiteroles and chocolate layer cake, both of which were extraordinary. It's the better part of 12hrs since I finished that meal and I still am not hungry. My wallet may never recover either but it was worth it.
  3. In better bike-gear related news I stopped by my LBS earlier in the week to show them the issue that I was having with my new-to-me shoes. They agreed to talk with Specialized about it and see if they could get me a warranty replacement strap to see if that helped. i was psyched they agreed to even try given that I didn't buy the shoes from them, didn't have a receipt, etc. So they got S to agree to send a strap but before that could happen their head mechanic (Billy) asked if I'd bring the shoes back in to see if the fault was with the shoe. It's on my way home so I did that yesterday. He took one look at the right shoe and said, "A strap will never fix that and offered to talk with S again about getting me a replacement set of shoes. Sweet! He went one better today and called to let me know that if I could wait a month he'd get me a replacement from the 2014 model which does away with the ratchet mechanism entirely in favor of the much better BOA closure. SUPER SWEET! I of course agreed to wait two or three weeks for the new shoes so hopefully by mid October I'll be rocking the Titanium/Black version.
  4. Here's to hoping you get twice as much time with your friend than you expect.
  5. This. Take your $ and run (or ride in this case).
  6. Sorry, Jeff, that sucks.
  7. I can add a spud wrench to your toolset.
  8. What Dan said, Gazelle will give you $300 for a 5 (16GB is $310, 64GB is strangely only $320) which would cut the cost of the 5S significantly but they want insane $$ for the off contract phones ($849 for a 64GB, jebus). Or you could sell it to me...PM me if you want to talk.
  9. If you've already been fit to the bike I would ride it for a little while and then think about removing some of the spacers on the steerer. Right now it appears to be setup for little to no drop which isn't an issue from where I sit but as you get more comfortable on it you might want a little more aggressive position. Otherwise I'm with Gene, me likey.
  10. It's the same one from Paceline. The guy paid just over $2k for it, lightly modified a few things (skewers, stem, bottle cages) and now expects to be able to mark it up 25%. No thanks. From where I sit it's an odd fitting bike (longish 60cm ST for a 58cm TT) so the market is limited. The generic carbon clinchers are also a negative from where I sit. Why lace up nice hubs to crap hoops? Still, I'm watching it carefully...
  11. I got two proposals but they were so lopsided that there was no way that I was going to go through with them. I mean seriously, no one should reasonably expect someone to trade a player averaging 24pts/week for two players that when combined don't even match that total, right?
  12. Happy Birthday, Stretch! May life treat you exceptionally well tonight my friend.
  13. This was, without a doubt, the highlight of my day. Great to see you, Gene, and to meet your lovely wife. Todd, yes it was Locos and IMHO is not to be missed if you're in Kittery in looking for a casual lunch or dinner.
  14. I agree, Chris. Everytime I think about buying some new component for the Roubaix that would shave a few grams I remember that I'm still a fatass and that the engine that powers my bike needs a lot more work than my bike does. Now, that's not to say that I don't buy the occassional farkle because I do.

  16. I'm so effing screwed at the RB position. I think 3 of 5 are out for significant periods of time and one of the remaining has scored 0 points so far this year. I look forward to being the league doormat.
  17. done, and well done again Karen.
  18. Done. Sent invites to you, Jeff and Brent.
  19. Agreed although he just needs black rings; the arms are fine as is.
  20. Happy Birthday, Deepak!
  21. Nicely done, Justin.
  22. Why must you guys live the better part of 500 miles away?
  23. Gout?
