Ah, I see. That should work.

That might make for a pretty miserable and incomplete day, Dan. What's the widest tire your nishiki can run? If it's less than a 28 I'd imagine a taco'd rim or two in your future or lots of walking.

I've read some more, sounds like there's enough terrain to justify use of an MTB. Just not sure full squish would be the way to go...
-
Pencil me in. 100km on the MTB sounds brutal, but fun. [edit] I'm wondering if a gravel bike wouldn't be sufficient for this? I can't find much (yet) in the way of description of the trails other than "singletrack".

I run a headlight and tail light I just don't like riding in the dark all that much. In the morning it's not so bad as by the time I get to roads with more traffic the sun is up. But leaving work in the dark and riding the whole way home that way, eh, just kind of leaves me nonplussed. It's also getting to the point where leaves and stuff on the roads are near hazardous, especially at the shoulder so the next few weeks will be tricky anyway. If work doesn't get in the way I'll get a commute in next week but I may have to travel the first few days which would squash all potential.

Simple solution - ride more. Most of us here are so far off the actual curve of fitness that any level of activity is likely to be pretty productive in burning fat and improving the other areas you're looking at. I tend to simply ride however fast it feels comfortable to do so on any given day. This morning that was ~18mph, other days on this same ride I've very comfortably cruised at 20mph. So bascially, until you get to the point where you feel like your level of fitness has plateaued you probably don't need to worry much about zones IMO.

I had 99% of a great MTB ride last Friday. Crashed relatively hard with about 200yds to go (stupidly) but didn't do major damage. May have bent the rear d hanger but need a trip to the shop to confirm. Definitely tore the cleats on my shoes, put a nice little puncture into my right leg and sracped my right forearm. But such in the nature of the beast riding on dirt/rocks/roots on a good day not to mention after early morning showers in the fall with wet leaves everywhere. It was actually quite the fun and challenging ride what with basically only being able to use my rear brake most the time in order to avoid immediately tucking the front wheel. Some drugs and ice mostly cured the leg and the arm is fine so I rode to work today. It was a chilly morning; 32F when I left the house but has warmed considerably throughout the day and should be a gorgeous ride home as long as the wind doesn't kick up too much. I fear this might be my last commute as I was in near 100% darkness when I left at 6am and will be racing daylight on the way home. Once we roll the clocks back it's going to get really hard to ride in the afternoon... But I felt good even if I was on the slower side. I blame it on the fact that I couldn't see my computer for the first 30 min or so of the ride as it was too dark and my fingers were too cold to punch the backlight button.

Happy Birthday, Peter!

Replacement is unlikely but the plumber was out on Friday and confirmed that it does require some repair. I'll swallow that pill and then try to reasses the tv situation given that there does not appear to be a good, moderately priced 46" TV.

actually, if you look closely its a ship-shipping ship (huge barge), shipping ship-shipping ships (two smaller barges), shipping shipping ships. -
The minute he cut me off I would have been on the phone to 911. Too many batshit crazy people out there.

Belated Birthday wishes, Carl!

Currently waiting to find out if our hot water heater is shitting the bed, so... no decision yet.

That was a great big pile of shit.

Happy Birthday, Vicki!

I'm leaning towards a gravel bike for my next purchase. Dedicated cross geometry seems generally to be on the uncomfortable/twitchy side although there are certainly exceptions to that. Which Giant are you eyeing, Chris?

Agreed. I miss having time to go out and shoot like that. -
My concern with Sammy is the class action suit against them last year, specifically related to this type of TV and capacitor failures on the power supply pcb. I may just push the wife towards the 50" panny and hope that she can live with it. A trip to Best Buy is scheduled for this afternoon.
-
Ok, so the wife appears to be prepared to buy a new TV but our space won't permit the easy purchase of one of the previously highly recommended Pannys. Based on dimensions that I'm seeing it looks like 47" is another sweet spot and the largest that can be accommodated. Budget is a grand(ish) and I'm not looking for bleeding edge tech. The leading candidates so far are the Panny TC-L47E50 or WT50 but I'd love to hear some alternates.

Oh he'll yes, NICE!

I took a mental health day today. I hadn't been feeling well for a couple of days and didn't have much scheduled today so I decided that rather than get really sick I'd try to get some rest and take care of a few things around the house before the long weekend. I woke up feeling much better than yesterday and almost went to work. I'm glad I didn't. Time to go mail a few packages, one of which is overdue to be headed to Texas for experiments with maths.
