Haj, At the rate models are introduced you're always going to feel like you're overpaying. As long as you're not buying the day something comes out you're probably not doing badly, IMO, so just find something you like, buy it, and then ignore the temptation to see what it's currently selling for. Odds are whatever you buy is going to be phased out and upgraded, retooled or whatever within 12mo. It's borderline insane what Nikon and Cannon have been up to for the last 5 or 6 years and I don't see how it can continue.

Ehhh, I'm not sure I agree. It's not that I think glass should be a secondary consideration but I still don't have as much invested in glass as my D80 body cost. I think a vast majority of hobbyist shooters could live long, happy photographic lives with say a D90 body and a 18-200 VR lens. The body would run you ~$800, the lens ~$760. So my advice would be to look at it more from a 50/50 perspective rather than a majority directed at either purchase. Hell, most would probably be just fine with the D90 kit that includes the 18-105 VR lens at just a tick over $1000.

I think in the end you'll find that you would have been comfortable paying more.

No Jack, it's completely different (at least how I see it). When Grado (the manufacturer of the goods) dictates a price at least part of the justification is so that their margins stay in line with where they need them to be to survive. They know how much it costs them to make a 225, TTVJ doesn't. So, when Amazon dictates a price, they dictate the price to the manufacturer and therefore dictate what the manufacturers profits/margins will be. Granted it's not quite that simple and there are others far better equipped to explain it.

I find standard, old school wire strippers work just fine. I was just hoping to find a faster way. I'm also guessing that the type of auto=stripper that Marc linked to would work well. I hear you, it can be a bit nerve wracking. And since you're on the east coast have you tried Cam-Expert? I would have thought they'd be cheaper and faster for you.

Just to follow up on this purchase, they work well, given a somewhat limited scope of work. They don't, however, work for shit on anything that has teflon coating.

Ebook prices will and should be market driven, not driven by Amazon's arbitrary pricing structure. I'm just as upset with Amazon over how they are handling this business compared to Apple stepping into the fray and not only providing some much needed competition but letting the distributors set the prices for their own goods. Is the current setup looking like it's worse for consumers with the higher pricing, sure, but I think things will find a natural level on their own better compared to price dictation.

Haj, I doubt you'll get much for the used film rig, especially the body. If the lenses are decent and will work on modern bodies you're better served keeping them.

I would not use a stepped attenuator unless you can find one with more than 24 steps. I'd also get rid of the locking 1/4 jack while you're at it.

They'd have to be pretty inefficient to require more than the 50W's the NAD can deliver. I think you'd find the NAD has enough power to do most speakers good justice. But what it means is that for short bursts the NAD can put out over 100W but is only capable of about half that in continuous duty. A lot of manufacturers rate their amp's power output for the short burst type of output to make them sound impressive spec-wise, NAD takes a more conservative approach.
