I'm not sure he was so terrible that I will celebrate his death, but correspondingly he was definitely terrible enough that I won't celebrate his life.

Happy Birthday, Colin!

^^^ Wait, so you drop $1100 tomorrow and you might receive some headphones in November that no one has ever heard before and might come from a company that no longer exists? Where do I sign up? I guess I missed when DROP became kickstarter but I admittedly have stayed out of all of this.

To the guy that always seems to be saying happy birthday to someone else, happiest of birthdays, Mr. Tice. Here's to hoping you're feeling better and get to enjoy the day.

Happy Birthday!

I'd want to be in a position where I was holding the router, not the workpiece. You need down pressure to ensure you're getting the right depth of cut and that puts your hands in a bad position if something goes wrong with the router table. Basically I try to never be pushing my hands toward the cutting thingy and maybe one of the work holding doohickys that Doug linked to fixes that but that's my 2ยข.

While everyone here might have owned one at some point the simple fact is that they failed to become a mass-market supplier and I'd guess that the Beats/Apple consortium has a huge market share compared to anyone else. Christ, I own a pair of Beats and while audiophilically (new word, yay) flawed, they do the job they were intended to do better than anything else I tried. I found myself wishing this weekend that they made an active noise cancelling version of mine (the Powerbeats Pro) as they would be a home run for those of us that cannot wear the airpods. But yes, I agree, this is sucky news for those of us that have bought, owned, and still own Senn's products.

My 2ยข, the fence is likely to cause accuracy and repeatability issues but I, like Naaman, welcome its use as a dust collection element so I usually leave it backed off just a touch to make sure that I'm getting solid contact with the bearing on the bit. I've definitely had to run pieces through multiple times when dust built up along the fence or a little chip of wood got in the way.

Got back out for a longer ride today, on packed snow it's a total blast. On loose stuff, not so much (as expected). Really looking forward to riding these trails in the spring on this thing.

Initial testing this morning went very well. Conditions aren't ideal but were good enough for some fun.

Are they going to be honest and just call in the Tracker?

I'll swap the wheels this weekend for the ones with the studded tires already mounted on them, but the COVID hardtail project is complete(ish). I probably need new brake pads but I'll deal with honky brakes for a little while.
-
Another 3-6" of snow headed my way early next week. Storms of that size can roll in all they want since they're manageable, just spare me the foot+ nonsense and I'll keep quiet.

I think laser table technology has advanced considerably in the last 50+ years.

Very nice, but am I the only one somewhat annoyed that he left the front lip of the middle cover proud of the two sides? Had to be an intentional aesthetic choice but not one I can understand. And freakin' sweet, Naaman. Time to make that ping pong table pay for itself?

Happy Birthday, Jeff. Here's to hoping it's a day filled with smashing sticks instead of heads.

I mounted the studded MTB tires yesterday and went for a snow shoe in the afternoon to try to help pack the local trails. ๐

It would appear that we've turned a corner and are now in proper winter mode for the foreseeable future. Snow tomorrow (4-6"), more Tuesday (~3") and then the possibility of a major storm at the end of next week. Not complaining, if it's going to be winter it might as well really be winter.

There should be adapters available to accommodate different diameters. Even on my 2018 Scott Genius it runs post mount adapters to mate up with 180mm discs which were the default standard by that point. Same with the 2015 frame that I'm working on building up now and one of the reasons I haven't been able to get it wrapped up this week. The adapters and new brake lines should be at my house when I get home so with a little luck I'll drop the bike off at my shop mid next week for a thorough check over to make sure I don't die the first time I ride it.

^^^ If you want a track-based blower I'd recommend the Honda. A friend has one and loves it. We ended up with right around a foot of snow, on the heavier side, so I was glad to have a high-functioning snow blower. The windrow at the end of the driveway would have been a back breaker. Still not looking forward to dealing with the decks this weekend after the predicted rain Friday but there's no time to shovel them between now and Friday AM.

I think about it like I think about most things these days, there are both lots of right ways to do something and most definitely more than one way to do it wrong. Some days I take a walk just to talk a walk. Could I traverse that path more quickly with a car, sure, but that would kind of defeat the purpose. I have yet to find a machine in my shop that can do its job without my input, therefore my thoughts, skills, etc., are still an integral part of the process and for me can result in a satisfying project.
