I mounted the studded MTB tires yesterday and went for a snow shoe in the afternoon to try to help pack the local trails. 😁

It would appear that we've turned a corner and are now in proper winter mode for the foreseeable future. Snow tomorrow (4-6"), more Tuesday (~3") and then the possibility of a major storm at the end of next week. Not complaining, if it's going to be winter it might as well really be winter.

There should be adapters available to accommodate different diameters. Even on my 2018 Scott Genius it runs post mount adapters to mate up with 180mm discs which were the default standard by that point. Same with the 2015 frame that I'm working on building up now and one of the reasons I haven't been able to get it wrapped up this week. The adapters and new brake lines should be at my house when I get home so with a little luck I'll drop the bike off at my shop mid next week for a thorough check over to make sure I don't die the first time I ride it.

^^^ If you want a track-based blower I'd recommend the Honda. A friend has one and loves it. We ended up with right around a foot of snow, on the heavier side, so I was glad to have a high-functioning snow blower. The windrow at the end of the driveway would have been a back breaker. Still not looking forward to dealing with the decks this weekend after the predicted rain Friday but there's no time to shovel them between now and Friday AM.

I think about it like I think about most things these days, there are both lots of right ways to do something and most definitely more than one way to do it wrong. Some days I take a walk just to talk a walk. Could I traverse that path more quickly with a car, sure, but that would kind of defeat the purpose. I have yet to find a machine in my shop that can do its job without my input, therefore my thoughts, skills, etc., are still an integral part of the process and for me can result in a satisfying project.

About 6" on the ground now so we're into the inch-an-hour territory of the storm. Predicted totals are still in the 10-18" range and I'm guessing we'll get ~12".

Started to snow in earnest around 5:30 and we've gotten a couple inches so far. We'll see how the night goes.

Tip for the future, in case this isn't what you did to fix it, but if you're v-carving and finding that you aren't getting a "bold" enough result a quick attempt at a fix is to simply cheat Z zero down a bit (experiment, it's easy to go too deep in a hurry) and then rerun that section of the program. I've found it works acceptably well without butchering the tapered sections. One other option is to rerun the program with a 90d V as opposed to a 60d, but that only works if your first effort was with a 60d bit.

Well, winter weather is now truly upon us with temps barely breaking double digits this weekend and a foot or so of the whiteness predicted for tomorrow. So I've gotten busy building up the snow rig and despite a few hiccups it's actually going ok. New brake hoses are required to replace the ones that came with the slightly used brakes I bought (too short) then just a shifter cable housing and some brake caliper adapters are all that's really missing. A friend has some basic SPD's that I'll use for now and I'm pretty sure I've got a spare saddle to throw at it. Hopefully all the bits still arrive this week and I've got a message into my local shop to give it a thorough looking over before I start riding. I'm hoping to have it on the trails in two weeks or so and the inbound snow should make for some entertaining rides w/ the studded tires.

Nice, Naaman! I've been meaning to have a serious go at inlay work given my skills at CAD - since the software that does it automatically is out of my price range - but haven't gotten there yet. Someday... For now I'm too distracted by my stick-smashing project. Headset, stem, and spacers arrive this week so I got the cockpit mocked up. Ignore the stick smasher in the background that currently serves as a workbench and beer holder.

I'm a big fan of the SVS that I use in my HT.

I listened to Dune this year and enjoyed it thoroughly. The sequel, no thank you. It was a total struggle and it'll be the last of the series that I bother with. In other news I (unsurprisingly) took @en480c4's recommendation and have now listened to Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth. The former is effing fantastic. The second was more difficult, for reasons I will not divulge (spoiler) but finished incredibly well and has me looking forward to the final book in the trilogy to see where the story goes. The audio books are highly recommended, the narration and narrator are brilliant.

Sketch it up by hand, send me something dimensioned and I'll put it into CAD for you and/or send Naaman a vector file that he can cut out. It is not hard. The hurdle for a lot of folks is either a) the drawing side or b) the machining side. If I had more time to play with the machine I think I could get up to some serious fun but, well, life and all that.
