  1. So I remembered Rule #5 (HTFU) and went out riding with a teammate for 40 miles where the temperature never rose over 36 degrees. Was a great ride though. It was a recovery ride for him and he dropped me on the hills. Oh well, I'm not racing this year anyway. Edit: Here's the data: http://www.trainingpeaks.com/av/NYVOPZPDVCCVPQOJGGMVQUGXZE
  2. Congrats on 39 years. That is awesome.
  3. Fox F29 FIT RLC fork and there is no kit you apparently have to send it to the factory for a full rebuild. I have asked if they are going to upgrade the fork to the latest internals etc for the money but I doubt it. If it does I may consider it.
  4. Left my house at 5:50 am to go and check on the roof work done at vacation place and make sure that the water was off with all the cold weather. I also needed to return $150 in attic insulation that wasn't used. Went smoothly and I got back home less than 3 hours later. I also saw that the lake is almost back to its usual level after they drained it down 6ft to do work on the dam. Its going to be a fun summer with the family on the boat.
  5. Mike I was under the impression that mtb people prefer short stems for twisty trails because they steer faster. I guess you just mean that the technical stuff doesn't involve as much endurance. Got word that my dropper seat post is at the store. Very interested to try it out sometime when it gets warmer. I also got word that to get a remote lockout installed on my fork would cost like $450 which is probably not a sensible investment considering how little I ride mountain.
  6. Nice Mike! It's just below freezing here with tins of salt on the road so I doubt I will be riding outside.
  7. Happy Belated Birthday!
  8. USA built watch http://shinola.com/
  9. Happy birthday!
  10. You are doing great Jeff! Those hills will get a bit easier after more riding. Compact crankset and wider range cassette will help too.
  11. It's on then. I need to be back home by 11:30.
  12. Jeff want to ride tomorrow? I could meet you out at that point on the trail at 9 am or so?
  13. Great job on the weight loss Vicki and good luck with getting up to speed. I'm stress eating like mad and stuck up about 10lbs above my lowest weight. I will keep trying though.
  14. Done. Good on you! I would be interested in joining you depending on the timing.
  15. Happy birthday!
  16. Jeff I had a great time too and it was a great workout. You are faster than you think.
  17. The GW Parkway trail is narrower than the W&OD and will likely be rather busy but it is enjoyable. If you want to meet up on Sunday morning somewhere I would be up for that but tomorrow morning I have lake house stuff to deal with.
  18. Just ride further Jeff it gets nicer further out. Or you can go in and ride Rock Creek Parkway which is nice but hilly.
  19. Sorry Dusty. Hang in there.
  20. Nope just the track to be uploaded later. I am guessing the 810 is using Strava's computers to do the tracking and just showing the results. Not something I care about when out on a ride though. I need to be given Strava a try though as it may give me some motivation as I am nearly always riding alone. The wireless sync sounds good in theory but I have to boot up my server to do the sync anyway so no use for me.
  21. Cool. Nothing new that I want but cool.
  22. Deep profile wheels are less stable in any gusts and if you decrease your rotating mass you have less gyroscopic effect too. Congrats on the PRs. I have not been anywhere near any of my PRs in years. How do you like strava? I have not used it.
  23. Is there any cycling club near you? A lot of them are non-racing oriented and filled with pretty cool people.
  24. More like: "this stuff can be used to solve real world problems?"
  25. My phd is in theoretical fluids and from a naval architecture (which is an engineering discipline) program. We fluids guys are common in both mechanical, civil, chemical, aerospace engineering and atmospheric science. Tensor notation is used in the teaching of the navier stokes equations which are very common. I actually work with inviscid fluids a lot which are described by the Laplace equations and I have done so many vector identity proofs with tensor notation it's scary. I remember talking graduate math classes and the math majors bring stunned/troubled by me actually doing useful things with their math.
