Any thoughts on Meier Cantate and equivalent alternatives?
I thought the Cute Beyond was a better match with the Grados than the Meier Headfive (which I suppose is like an Arietta), and you could change the opamps to tune the sound if needed. A good PSU will help as well. They are decent low end amps, but I think you would still like a Cavalli CTH, or Millett, or other tube hybrid with the Grados better. I just don't understand the aversion to amps with tubes. REVIEW: Firestone Audio Amps - Cute Beyond and Fubar III - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio

Yah, my ancestors came from the Ukraine and Austria. That was one of those videos that I had to download and covert for iTunes and my iPod.

I got a 3400ma pack similar to that from Amazon for less. It was $39 March 2008, now up to $49 18 month later. Any thoughts on Meier Cantate and equivalent alternatives?
When I was looking for a low cost amp Skylab recommended the Dark Voice 336i over the Meier Cantate (he had both and is a big Meier fan) because he knew that I wanted to use it for HD600. Although the 336i is not the best for low impedance cans it will do okay with them if you tune it with different tubes; but the synergy with HD600 was great and it kicked butt on my Meier Headfive. So you might consider skipping the SR-60/80 or other low end cans that you mentioned and consider the HD600 with something like the 336i or 336SE. You can get a great sounding set of tubes for the 336i for about $100 (Sylvania VT-231 or an RCA Grey glass VT-231 + a Tung Sol 5998) and be very pleased with the sound. That would fit right in your budget and sound great assuming you have a decent source, and I assume the Oppo would be good enough. My only complaint was finding half my NOS 6SN7 tubes had hum and needed to be burned-in to improve the hum, but a few tubes never got totally quiet. I did the "fitz" mod myself (bypass caps) and that fixed the issue completely. PS: Naamanf's DIY M3 was better than the 336i with everything but the HD600, where they were then on a similar level if I recall.

Interesting transplant phone?
At the old price nobody was buying them - I had the page flagged in my catalog, but never bought one. The sale price is more enticing. I wonder if I could install my old HE60 drivers in these...

The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
Okay, I see. I apologize for my misunderstanding. This one is too rich for my blood. I can't do it. Please count me out.

The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
Dr. Gilmore - I would like to go in for a complete kit, using DACT and plain aluminum knob. In regards to the $1500 estimate for parts, I know that doesn't including shipping or the DACT, but does that estimate include the case, front and back? Thanks! (I guess I need to start selling stuff. RS-1 with APS V3 cable might be first to go. At some point I'll need to hire a builder.)

Avatars.
I think that's a normal sized sammich and they simply got the "tiny-hands" guy from the BK commercial to pose with it.

Try installing soundsource from rogueamoeba on 10.6 and see if that works. They say 2.5 works: Rogue Amoeba | Freebies: Free software for Mac OS X

HD800 and GS-X/BUDA?
You shouldn't have hurt it - the power supply wanted you to feed it 230V and you only gave it 115v, so it was underpowered is all.

I know it sucks when a new toy shows up and doesn't work right. I hope the amp gets it's shit together quickly.

Post the last thing you bought!
I often get errors or silent quits with Max and 24/06 FLAC files when converting to ALAC. It just had an update so I'll have to see if that is fixed. [EDIT - Okay Max 0.9.1 is fixed!]

Managing separate versions of the same album in iTunes?
But does that screw up the last.fm thing that happened when you added 24/96 to the album name? Changing the composer as I suggested above and sorting the grid that way allows both albums to have separate icons in the grid, without affecting the album or artist for last.fm
