  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. Thanks manaox2 for the great beef jerky and music! Nobody in my family knows anything about the 32Gb SD card for my camera (or HM801), so I have to assume that came from you too.
  3. SWMBO says we'll do Xcaret...
  4. Well I do feel picked on. In this case it's been fairly well documented by Woo owners that the WA6 and WA22 change sound noticeably with a rectifier change. They REALLY do. No BS.
  5. When I had a WA22 on loan for 2 weeks it had a similar tone to my WA6 when both were using the Sophia Princess 274b rectifier, and side by side the ZDT was a bit better with the HD800. The Sophia is just a bright but open and spacious sounding tube that doesn't pair well with the HD800. However, that tube is a bit better with LCD-2, HE-5 LE, and HD600. In the WA6 I like the Amperex Bugle Boy GZ34 with HD800, but the soundstage is a bit more constricted. I have a Hytron 5U4G I want to try in the WA6 with HD800, which I'm told will be more like a cross between the Sophia and Amperex. This might be good with a wider variety of phones like LcD-2 (mine are rev1). I can't begin to guess how the 2a3 will sound with HD800, without having heard the combo, but the HD800 did sound good with the BA and ZD SE back in 2009. Tubes make a big difference and I have no idea what tubes were in those amps back then.
  6. Some of you guys are just mean spirited. It really stinks.
  7. I'm worried about the trouble I'd get into if they break it and it leaks all over the place, so I get caught.
  8. Chris, best wishes for you and your dad. Shelly, congrats on the improvement - sword canes are okay, but maybe an African walking stick from budk.com would be better (swing it like a bat). As for us - we found out tonight that our eldest daughter has been accepted to Duke University on the early decision program, and they're offering her some generous scholarships (about 50%). We are so happy and proud right now! In the end this won't cost us any more than what Colorado State University would have been, which is what we had budgeted for when she was younger. My daughter wants to help pay for part of her school to feel like she has a stake in things, so she plans to take the $5K/yr max in Stafford loans, since they're just a fraction of what we'll be paying. Wow. Great kid! It's great when things work out better than expected.
  9. I hit 5 liquor stores today and none will ship alcohol for me. But what I sent manaox2 already is nice enough without the alcohol, so I'm gonna stop worrying and drink the stuff myself, and then send him a souvenir from Mexico later. Cheers!
  10. Interestingly, I only enjoy the HD800 on my WA6 or ZDT, and even then I have roll my WA6 tubes to the thickest sounding ones I have, but the HD800 sound too bright with most of my other amps. However, the HD800 with my ZDT amp sounds very similar to my HE-60 on the KGSS, in tone and soundstage, although the HD800 have a little more bass impact and a little less transparency. The SR-009 improve upon both of those two phones though, with a less fatiguing presentation. If someone asked me, should I buy both an HD800 and an HE-60, or just the SR-009 I would pick the later.
  11. The forum kept telling me I had a database error, clicked 3x to post, now duplicated. Sigh...

  13. This is all I know, from his email to everyone:
  14. Thanks for the great suggestions.
  15. Those landscapes are beautiful! In other news, read about the guy who sold me my Leica D-LUX5 at his local store back in March: http://www.gazette.com/articles/shop-130067-local-owner.html http://www.gazette.com/articles/godec-130136-arrested-one.html
  16. What method do you guys use to ship alcohol? Do you sneak it into a box and ship UPS, or do you have a liquor store ship it for you, etc?
  17. I wanted to know about spots that head-caser's have visited. But thanks anyway.
  18. My father-in-law's estate is sending my wife's whole family (19 of us) to Cancun for one big fling before the Nana of the family is too old to travel or isn't with us anymore. She's at 77 years, but so was father-in-law when he passed away this summer, so her family wanted to build some new memories while she's still with us. Is there anything to do or place to go in Cancun that we absolutely should not miss? Any dangers or places to avoid? We'll be at some all inclusive beach resort that I can't even pronounce, but I think there is a water park near by. I've only been to Mexico once, and the Tijuana taxi driver's scared the crap out of me - is it like that in Cancun? Thanks!
  19. So, Brian Kurtz is leaving Cavalli Audio on friendly terms I hear. I was dumbfounded when I met him at RMAF and he looked at me and said, "Larry Ganz, Camp Jacobs, Uitca Mississippi, 1975". I'm like "huh, what"? Turns out he was my camp councilor at a 4-week summer camp when I was 14 years old, and he remembered me!! Amazing guy, whom I plan to stay in touch with.
  20. Interesting. I Found my SED winged-C EL-34 so I'll install those tonight for a listen. My WES is not terrible as is, but wonder if there's something about this being unit #1 with RCA loop out onstead of SE input with phase splitters that makes it a little better. I bought the unit Steve Guttenberg reviewed, and he thought it was the best he ever heard with O2 mk2.
  21. For those that missed this, it's $248 at Wallmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pioneer-VSX-921-K-A-V-Receiver/17655301?ci_sku=17655301&ci_src=14110944&sourceid=1500000000000003142050
  22. Can you elaborate? I haven't read anything negative recently about the newer WES (but I haven't been following recent threads as much either).
  23. I haven't tried Aperture yet, so I can't advise there. I stuck with the previous version of iPhoto under the "if it aint broken don't fix it" maxim. So far it hasn't screwed me over yet with over 20K+ photos and about 50Gb library size.
