Fuck in snow
Easily turned into another 1 foot + of drifting snow that got removed last night. Looks like another 3-4 inches on the drive this a.m. and lucky us, another 4-10 inches forecast for tomorrow. Then apparently it will be capped with freezing rain on Friday & Saturday. Just another fun winter week.

Fuck in snow
Friday delivered more than 10 inches here and today we have up to another 10 expected ... but "blizzard like" conditions, ie high winds and low wind chills. Some power outages. No point even trying to clear snow from the driveway/walks until the wind dies down. I consider myself fortunate compared to those of you with no electric and cold temps. Wishing you warmth and restored electrical service.

cary sli-80 vs sli-80 f1
Can you elaborate....what is it that you prefer in the Manley gear? Cryptic but exactly what I need to hear. I'm not looking for a tubey sound drenched in honey. Although I'm no DIY, I learned from dsavitsk's analysis of the F1 upgrade. Enlightning.

cary sli-80 vs sli-80 f1
Nice description. Now I understand I can see where the sound may not appeal to all, and in fact, may only appeal to a few ... at least for headphone use. So a well built amp with a limited audience.

cary sli-80 vs sli-80 f1
I don't quite get "round sounding". Neither google nor wikipedia were any help. I get that it's warm and not neutral. Am I understanding right that it is warmer than most tube amps?

cary sli-80 vs sli-80 f1
I'm beginning to compose my "short list" for a head amp. One of the amps I've been looking at is the Cary SLI-80 and the F1 version only sold by Upscale Audio Cary Audio SLI-80 Signature F1. I'm somewhat concerned about the scorching heat these amps are reputed to produce and not convinced the F1 upgrades are worth it for headphone amp use. I have not had an opportunity to hear one, but understand the sound is not for everyone, but I don't know exactly what that means. The overall design seems to be good and it has been around since 1997. It has stood the test of time. Is anyone willing to comment about this amp and/or the F1 upgrade?

How has your rig changed in 2008? And do you have any plans for 2009?
I'm glad you're enjoying the ECD-1. Hope you like it as much as I'm enjoying the DAC3. As you said, "it gets the hell out of the way of my music".

Forgot the DT-880s, purchased sometime between the sale of the HD580s and the purchase of the DX1000. So Sherwood, not even a thanks for the link to the ECD-1?

What did you do today?
As they say in Avenue Q..."it sucks to be me"

What did you do today?
Arrived at work late (rare), incredibly busy day, rearended on the way home. Wife cleared the driveway of snow.

Magnatune
I subscribe to their cello podcast but I don't download.

Bel Canto Transport, anyone?
Seems like the HagUSB does the same job for about 1/4 the price.

Blue Circle SBD?
Thanks Sherwood. Doesn't "sound" like this DAC would suit me Accurate is fine but digital, harsh and screechy are not. I'll probably get the DAC3 from the sale I put up here if it's still available. I had been looking at it and the North Star MKII. Hard to beat that price.

Blue Circle SBD?
You can also have one personally drawn by Graham for an extra fee

Blue Circle SBD?
I've been looking for an external DAC and found this Blue Circle Audio. Haven't been able to find out much about it. One Soundstage review which didn't say much. Sketchy on detail. I haven't been able to determine the chip used. Not much info on forums regarding this DAC. Talked to a dealer yesterday and apparently it's not selling well. Introduced in March, 2007 so it's been out awhile. Has anyone heard this? Or maybe the BC501? Any thoughts other than it is butt ugly? BC owners seem to be a rabid bunch and repeat buyers, which is saying something. The dealer network seems pretty much composed of TV repair guys. Now there's an industry that's just about gone. Not much negative feedback. At least this seems positive. The closest dealer is 2 1/2 hours away, and not on my way to anyplace in particular. Otherwise I would drive over for a listen.

Rank Your Headphones
I"ll take a stab at it: RS1 -> K501 -> K601 = SR225 -> DT880 -> SE530 -> HD580 = PK2 -> PK3 -> KSC75 -> Marshmallows -> any number of stock earbuds I know the low ranking of the HD580 will raise a few eyebrows ... but it is the only headphone I have plugged in and instantly hated. Gave it 30 days honest listen before giving it the boot.
