Both guitars need to be restrung, I was looking for some string packs I know I have but was not able to come up with them.  I was going to hook them up and try them last night but never got around to it and I obviously cannot play the intro to Sweet Child o' Mine without a high E string. 

Any classical players here? I'm about to order a Jim Redgate, note sure if it's going to be a traditional, double top or lattice type. I'm going to get details directly from Jim and see what he thinks would suit me best. There's a 14 month waiting time, I think he only produces around 20 guitars a year. Very excited to say he least.

Yes, I've been playing a Dan Kellaway for the past 17 or so years, it's a lattice braced type, similar to a Greg Smallman's design.
You can get an idea of Jim Redgate by watching any of Ana Vidovic performances.

...only asking because I got a Torres from Spain a while back - took me a while to get use to this furious lady - but I guess you already have had that experience ;o)

in other words, boomers bought a lot of guitars, and are dying now, and there aren't as many GenXers buying expensive guitars to pretend they're in the stones.  There's still a market for good guitars, but brand means less, and the over all market is somewhat smaller.

Not bad.  Most archtops will sound better, due to having a top that resonates like an acoustic, but...that's alright, I've begun plugging in again, so at night, I've been practicing with a Vox amPlug.

Looking at picking up my first guitar, thinking an electric acoustic. In un-Head-Case fashion I'm looking at spending $500 or less. Any suggestions on what to get or something someone wants to unload?

So you want the pick-ups for when you start street husking on a little amp?

If I was going to buy a sub $1000 guitar I would look at the Dirty 30s from Recording King http://www.recordingking.com/guitars/rds9.  I think it is less than $1000 or some of the better Yamahas.

You can put pick-ups on any of them if you decide you need them.  I would get a better guitar up front and spend money on pick-ups later.

Wanted it more for the built in tuner. Plus you never know when Dave Matthews might ask me to come on tour to rock out the G chord. 

Electroacoustic Yamahas from the late 90's and early 2000 are very decent and should be found in the sub 500$ range.

“Built-in tuner”?  I don’t know what that means, I presume you mean a pedal, so that you can tune silently.  If it’s an electro-acoustic, it’s still not going to be silent.

Please feel free to correct me if you mean something else.

Your best bet is one of those clip-on-the-headstock tuners, my friend uses those even on electrics.

That said, I see Guitar Center has about half a dozen PRS acoustics on used for under half a grand, and they all have one of those acoustic pickups, I think.  If there’s anything wrong with it, just take it to your closest one and return it.

I’m also really fond of Ibanez archtops, they have a bunch, too.

Looking at this list, I’d look at Ovations, too, but that’s a very particular sound and not for everyone.  Also, the curved bout makes it awkward to balance in one’s lap.

The tuner is built into the controls, so a sperate headstock tuner isn't needed.

I think I might go see what GuitarCenter has to offer tomorrow. I'm guessing it will just be a bunch of banjos, Arkansas and all. 

Not sure I know of a guitar with a tuner built in.  Not sure why it would even be necessary.

I should say, if I had anything with a built-in tuner, I'd definitely sell it to you for cheap, but alas, I don't.  Besides, I suck at shipping stuff.
