Looking to get a set of active studio monitors.

Having a hard time deciding between a set of coaxial's such as Equator or PreSonus or ribbon's such as Emotiva or Adam.

Both have their pros and cons, but there is no way for me to try all of them in my office.

Budget is about $1,500.

Buy all of them, return what you don't like.

Focal Solo6 is very nice imo but maybe a bit out of your budget, not sure on the pricing overseas.

I wouldn't fixate on the driver technology. Both can sound terrific.

 

Get the one that sounds the best to you.

Aside from trips to B&H and Guitar Center, I will not be able to audition these at the same time in the same environment, nor does anyone carry the Emotivas.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Neumann KH120.

How about the Adam F5's?

Fuck Coaxials.  Fuck ribbons.  Quad 12L Actives are where it's at.  You have your head ears roughly in the plane of the tweeters and you're done.  They got no bottom, but you have a little bit of budget left over for a sub.

 

I listen to the Equators all the time, but the budget on them were $300 -- if you got more dosh, the Quads are the best in their price bracket.

 

I have no experience with the Emotivas.  Yet.

Baguettes powered monitors were pretty nice. Significantly better than the emotivas. I recommend them. You'll need a BIG desk tho.

Yuh, those were fantastic.  I told Jeff he needs to get them for his piano instead of listening to the built-in speakers.
