A 12000 euro amp

Featured Replies

Hi,

Check this 12000 euro amp out. There are so many $10k amps popping out these years. They come from workshops. Actually, I doubt if they are really worth the price. (I am only able to upload 3 pics.)

Angstrom Audio Laboratories is back at it again with a statement level Headphone Amplifier of uncompromising standards. MSRP $13,750.

Power Output 3,5 watt per channel

Dual Mono Power Supply

weight 35 Kg

Full Regulated Power Supply 12 Tubes( 6 x channel)

2 ECC802S input/driver stage per channel

2 6CG7 double triode in triode composite Circlotron operating

Response Frequency 12 hz to 150 Khz

Output is in Current

Output impedance 10 Ohm to 3 Kohm

Distorsion 1% @ 20 Hz to 20 Khz

OMG! Response Frequency 12 hz to 150 Khz.  Is it for human or aliens?

Doesn't matter, it look cheaper than any Chinese made at 1/10 the price internally.

That's a shit ton of tubes and transformers. Looks like a mainframe module from 1956.

i like the look of it. if that's a modushop enclosure as someone else said, they did a damn good job of styling and photography. would need to see it in person next to something like a Nagra. the perf board internals are weird though. even if building a one-off you'd be better off etching a copper board or using a blank single sided board. the tolerances on those perf boards are usually really bad and i'd be very worried about the possibilities of shorts or arcing with high voltage

When you say it, that looks like a steel Modushop chassis with a new top plate and wooden side panels.  Cheapest possible crap then...

The perf boards are just retarded.  I mean why would you do that, there is no good way to mount the tube sockets compared to a proper pcb with large slots to securely mount them.

Ohhh and a RK27 volume control in a 12000€ amp?  Are you fucking kidding me?

Read your welcome PM. It'll save you a lot of grief.

Not a great first post!

That's a non production prototype unit. The Angstrom stuff sound pretty good. Didn't Nick have a custom headamp built by these guys back in the days on the other site to drive his R10's?
